  1. Howard is still first.

That is a cutie-pie of a covered bridge. The smallest one I've ever seen.

  2. On the way home from work Sunday evening the sun been down long enough there was only the slightest bit of purple left in the clouds to the west, although the sky was not yet dark. Looking to the east, a spot of bright orange at the edge of the clouds along the crest of the mountains caught my eye, and the moon rose from it as I drove north. I don't think I have ever seen such an orange moon--it was every bit as orange as The Great Pumpkin. I wondered if I might be seeing a lunar eclipse, but evidently not (I checked the ephemeris). It must have simply been a pronounced example of the Tyndall Effect--the moon was illuminated by the sun's rays that been enriched in red by passing through the earth's atmosphere at a very low angle, and were upon reflection further enriched in red as they passed through the lower atmosphere again.

P.S.: The lettuce I gleaned on the way home is very nice--much fresher than from the supermarket, of course. But when I got into my car to go to work this morning it smelled of lettuce!

  3. My e-mail program (Outlook) refused to start this morning. Eventually ended up uninstalling and trying to reinstall. But I don't have the necessary product key and while it should be possible to get it from Microsoft I haven't yet quite succeeded. So that's for tomorrow.

  5. We got rain and some good winds. Monday I drove to NH and back for meetings, and was expecting all rain. Got all sun and moon, except for a few minor showers and one powerful squall with small hail. Enroute I saw a deer on the side of the road which had been hit by a vehicle after receiving gunshot wounds in its rump. A sad way to go. I also saw a vibrant rainbow and a few showers. On the way back there was what appeared to be a 4 car accident involving both sides of the I-89 interstate (and there's a median!), just inside the VT border. Traffic was backed up for several miles ... incredibly rare here!! That scene got hit by the squall line about 10 minutes after we passed through. Mah*Sweetie came upon a large buck standing in his lane, on his way home, but managed to avoid him. We were both grateful to get home.

  6. Should mention that the stucco work didn't get started Sunday -- obviously in view of the weather. And things now have to dry out. With bad weather predicted for Wednesday and Thursday, it may be next week before it gets started.

And we haven't yet gotten detailed pricing on that plastic shingle root we probably want if we can find the money.
