Gee, that looks enviable! Weddings hereby given first place for the day.
On another note altogether, I wonder if Amazon might come out with a low-priced smart phone and an expanded MVNO (Mobile Virtual Operator Network) system next year--that could be very intersting.
I have no idea what a Mobile Virtual Operator Network might be. But I only use my cell phone as a telephone-when-travelling, so I guess it doesn't matter.

I reported that Angel got up for a while last night and had supper around 8:00. Well, it seems Dad fed her again around 10:00 and "she really dug in." She's been up and about again today. I caught her coming upstairs, which of course means she went downstairs. When I saw her she had to stop frequently to rest, and it was painful to watch her walk. It is clearly very difficult for her. But she is a most determined little creature.
We had the second roofing guy out today, and I got a better idea of the "venting" situation. It appears that we have had quasi-venting without actual vents: The original roofing was cedar shakes applied over a roof with 1" gaps between the boards. Later layers of asphalt shingles were applied over that. He says that despite the overlays we have had some air loss through the roof even without actual vents. He also believes there were originally vents in the soffits, although those were covered with siding decades ago. And despite what people have said about mold, we have had none.
He says that, since all the old roofing will have to be torn off (we knew that), he'll have to apply plywood decking over the roof before the shingles can be applied. That will likely up the cost.
SP Some restored photos posted lately, reminded me of a joke I heard in a radio show from about 1941: A family brings a stained, tattered photograph into a shop and inquires about restoration and retouching. The proprietor looks at the photo-- which they say is the only one they have of their grandfather-- and he says he can fix the damage and print some duplicates. Then one grandson says, "An' annudah thing-- it's too bad he was wearin' that screwy hat in the picture. We NEVER seen him wear a hat like that-- we was used to seein' him with no hat at all. Maybe could ya REMOVE the hat completely?" "Well, yes, for a small additional charge I could. But tell me-- did your grandfather have light or dark hair? Curly or straight? Parted on which side, or in the middle? Or balding?" The grandson says "Why ya askin' that? Ain't ya gonna see fer yerself, when ya remove da hat?"

DeleteThose photos are just the upper foyer and the side reception room!
DeleteWait 'til you see the room the wedding took place in!
My telephone line has been *vile* for several days. Think it has something to do with the change of season/temperature. . . . Good fix Cat.
ReplyDeleteThe library looks marvelous!
Thanks, Puddle. I figured you were cut off and Listener was otherwise engaged. Just sorry I didn't get to it earlier.

Good for Angel!
