Talk about the Growing Season...!

Lichens growing on solid rock. Awesome, like fire.

  1. Hey, those are some lichens! Vermont grows quite a few striking things, including governors, eh?

Stair lift = good! I recall seeing them advertised regularly a long time ago. I suppose there is an electrical contact concealed within a rail? And I should expect that as an accessibility device, there should be some sort of tax or subsidy support--maybe a tax credit?

It seems the official high temperature here on Sunday was 102 degrees…average is about 85 this time of year. Hot..

Ordered tickets for Canada trip last night, started roughing out itinerary. If this is Thursday, it must be Kingston… but it looks doable. The trip to Quebec City will be the last segment, and can be truncated if need be. Got some medium weight interfacing material (99 cents per yard, and it was on sale about 50% off of that) for gravestone rubbings, and ordered some well recommended rubbing wax.

I was going to work on hotel and auto reservations tonight, but am tired, so I won''t.

    TTFN

    1. You're right, Alan. There would have been a tax write off... if my income were high enough. But I do get a discount for having two installed one one day, so that's some help. And again, yes. Runs on a rail. Runs battery which, I am assured, has about a five year life. But, there is also an electrical contact. Sorry, I'm not able to remember the details. I'll get the folder of info and relay what I can from that.

  2. Very funny story. My niece's eldest son just discovered that he was born before his mom and dad got married. He asked her if that meant he was a Sebastian? She said she thought it was going to be an interesting convo. . .

  3. I Just placed an order through Amazon Germany. I used Google Translate, but relied mostly on the fact that all Amazon sites look the same. Found the 1-Click button and the Continue buttons purely by recognition and got through fine.

Curiously, it said right on the listing that the item was an American vinyl LP. Can't think why I had to go to Germany for it rather than US or UK Amazon. But, there it is. BTW the LP is "Joanna" by Rod McKuen.

  4. Talking to my daughter on the phone a while ago. She said her husband had just called her and said, "I'll be late getting home. The llama escaped."

He works at a children's camp.

    1. Susan, I'm sure it's not funny for the llama, which could get hurt, but it does sound funny.

    2. That's right up there on the list of things you wouldn't expect to hear in your lifetime. :-)

  5. Well, apparently they caught the llama relatively quickly. He got home about the same as my daughter. Son-in-law, that is, not the llama.

  6. Crazy busy day at work, and before that the very unsettling news that a powerful Republican in town plans to build a Dollar General store in our quaint little town of 6000, next door to the Lutheran Church, beside an ancient graveyard, and uphill from a wildlife refuge. Our present town plan does not preclude this man from building on his own property, and since it's in an area zoned commercial, I think our hands are tied. The town planners can make certain requirements of how the building will look, the allowable outdoor lighting, and such as that, but not how it will be used (as long as it's legal). =Sigh= As one sympathetic member of the town board put it, "We think this enterprise won't last a year." (Yeah, then what goes in there next?) Egads.

  7. I often wonder why Republicans feel compelled to feck everything up.
