Wishin' and a Prayin' for Tanner & Penelope
Well, all this Wishin' and a Prayin' and now there's White Smoke too! Ha!
Pope Francis I: "has a reputation for humility. His personal style is the antithesis of
Vatican splendour, living in a small apartment instead of a grander
bishop's residence, taking public transport and cooking his own meals." Well, that's something at least. I highly recommend watching the movie "Saving Grace" starring Tom Conti as the Pope.
Excellent, poignant and humourous!

For Tanner and for Penelope...
ReplyDelete"In Homer's Odyssey, Penelope (pron.: /pəˈnɛləpiː/ pə-nel-ə-pee; Greek: Πηνελόπεια, Pēnelópeia, or Πηνελόπη, Pēnelópē) is the faithful wife of Odysseus, who keeps her suitors at bay in his long absence and is eventually reunited with him."--Wikipedia
I found a dandy AND inexpensive genealogy program for Macintosh: iFamilyforLeopard. On my Mac desktop (running an older version of the OS) there was an installation problem--permissions were set wrong, so it wouldn't run. Fixed that by installing with Pacifist, which is a very handy utility to have, even if one rarely uses it.
I wasn't watching where I was walking this morning; fell and twisted my ankle, but not badly. I DO need to be more careful. Will change to a different type of shoe, too. The ones I am wearing are some nice clogs, of a type I got when I couldn't tie laces. I can tie my laces easily now, and my feet are smaller due to weight loss, so new shoes are in order. No need for analgesics, but this evening I taped the ankle, which helps. And now to bed.
Alan
Awww, thanks for the Penelope info. The little sweetie is holding her own. :-)
DeleteAlan, check out some Keen shoes. I have small wide width feet and Keens are the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn...from first day straight on through! They're durable as they're very well made. I wear them to work and am on my feet the whole time. Better than sneakers and excellent support!
Yikes, Alan! Thank goodness no serious damage was done. But, still... OUCH!!!

Whoohoo!
DeleteVery strange day: leftover flooding, snow, ice pellets, sunshine. Almost feel sorry for the weather so unsettled it is.
ReplyDeleteIt appears we have a new pope. No word yet on *who*. . . .

And as I was reading the article -- thanks puddle -- it was updated to reveal the new pope's name: Bergoglio of Argentina.
DeletePope Francis I
ReplyDeleteHey, at least it's original!
Hallo from the Library in Concord, Massachusetts!
ReplyDeleteThis Library was built in 1809, nearly 50 years before Louisa May Alcott moved to town. We've been to the Old North Bridge, Orchard House (the Alcott House) and will soon attend what we came here for...
Dr.*Wildlife*Biologist*Son is giving a big deal talk tonight at the Art Association's Roberts Gallery about the findings of his work with American Oystercatcher birds. Mah*Sweetie got the day off from work and we're enjoying our midweek revel! The sky is bright blue, temp in the low 50's and the snow is nearly all melted. Some flooding at the Bridge, small flock of Canada Geese grazing on the shore, crocuses in bloom at the white Colonial house across the road from the Library. Awesome!
So, puddle, I figured out where Spring is hanging out today. Back home it's about 38F. Heh.
BTW, I took some great photos here...coming soon. :-)
DeleteImagine that: a pope named Francis.
ReplyDeleteJoke from my Catholic days:
ReplyDeleteA Dominican, a Franciscan, and a Jesuit were on a train. They got to discussing their various orders, each insisting his was the best. Finally late at night, they decided to let God answer, and left a blank piece of paper and pen on the dining table.
In the morning, they came in an found this note:
Gentlemen:
You are all equal.
(signed)
God, S.J.
LOL!
DeleteWe're inspired by PhD*Son's presentation and his work for Manomet! he has been bringing groups together to make a very positive collective impact on the well being of American Oystercatcheers and many more species and their habitats! (The species as declining but in 5 years gas increased 10%!) All initiatives can learn from what Son and his many teams have accomplished. What most efforts may be missing is a backbone organisation like Manomet. (Yes, they used the word "backbone!") :-D
ReplyDeleteas declining = was declining
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty great to hear Son's bosses and the President of Manomet say many good things about him to us. Awesome.
Deletelistener, always good to hear one's spawn be praised in one's very presence!
