  2. Pretty day: made it over freezing, and the garage just picked up my car. Realized I haven't gone further than John's store since before Thanksgiving. Luck holds, and I'll be making it to town for blood tests on Friday. Will try to throw in a little grocery shopping and maybe a laundromat visit. Live Large. . . .

  3. VPT is (right now) airing the Chris Graff interview with former Governor Howard Dean, as part of their series on Vermont Governors. They also showed clips of his Presidential Campaign announcement in Burlington. He said he really wanted individuals to know that they can change everything."

  4. Did you know that the week that Republican Governor Richard Snelling died suddenly, making Democrat Lt. Gov. Howard Dean our Governor was also the celebration of the State's bicentennial? Barbara Snelling, the late Governor's widow, spoke at his service, and at the end of the event every person there stopped on their way out to shake Howard Dean's hand? He said it was very moving: "They were all rooting for me." Adding: "Only in Vermont."

  5. Here's the web site of the descendants of my great great great grandfather's group of colonists:

Being a relatively small number of families in a very remote place, of course there were many marriages among them--which means I must have swarms of unsuspected (and unsuspecting) relatives, both by marriage and blood, who can be identified borough the association. Blows one away, it does...

It seems they have a Facebook page. I have avoided Facebook like the plague because of security concerns and my ingrained tendency to avoid anything that is too popular. But this tempts me sorely. I looked through the security settings info online, and they seem extensive if one so desires. But I'm still not at all sure how it works. Aha! I'll bet YouTube has a demonstration. I'll probably do it, just for that one site, with security settings cranked up.

    1. Alan ~~ I'll be interested to hear about your experiences on FaceBook. I, too, have avoided it. Not so much because of security concerns as because it is too popular and, so I understand, can so easily become a time-waster.

  6. We got a bunch of gardening done today; very pleasant. No need for a jacket, and not hot enough to make one perspire. Dove cooing while we worked. Oh--Miyoko saw a hawk eating a bird (maybe a blue jay) on our back lawn the other day! That's something new, for sure. This time of year a lot of hawks are down here in the valley, where food is more accessible than up in the mountain snows.

    1. What kind of hawk? Can Miyoko describe it? About how large? Colours of back, chest and tail? Any wingbars? Short neck or typical? Thanks!
