Didn't get to bed till five--after I finished *really* repairing the cable. Wrapped the knot with wire, aluminum tape and more wire. Asking Cooter to bring a new one with him, as this is clearly no permanent solution, but should hold till Sunday, Lord willing and the crick don't rise.
Sometime, someone came and plowed the road all the way up the hill, as far as I can see, so I assume all the way to Nancy's place. With luck, she won't need her chains. I love her house, I love her view, and could *never* do her road. Guess there's price for everything.
There was some snow in the morning. Flakes so big *I* could see them out the window. But pretty much melted now. They're predicting maybe as much as an inch tonight. If it doesn't make it, we will be only 11 days away from the all-time record for consecutive days without an inch of snowfall.
Total snowfall for Chicago this winter is 0.4". Lots and lots of cities have had more. Should I mention Dallas?
And we're only five days away from breaking the all-time record for the latest date on which temperatures fail to break the freezing mark.
And was there in 1924, when the current record was set?
Thing is, climate is a very long-term trend. What people see is weather. And in the short run, weather trumps climate.
So you have to either trust the physical chemistry of CO2 trapping heat, as I do, or you have to trust long-term measurements of very small trends. (Of course, they point in the same direction.)
Well, here I be. I got tomorrow off as a vacation day so we can attend the Holiday Party given by my side of the family in eastern Massachusetts. Mother Nature is, however, sending another snowstorm to the northeast, so my family has decided to cancel the party and get together sometime in April instead. =Sigh=
Turning in early tonight. Don't know why I'm so sleepy. But after a couple of days off from medical writing, there's more to do tomorrow. Although in this case it's not writing but looking up facts.
Howard Dean is first on this 4th Day of Christmas!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd puddle's pup Beau has escaped his cable again. Cold one tonight...say a prayer.
Beau's back!! No donut tonight, silly boy!

Brief responses to Bill and Puddle on the last thread.

But there's no such thing as Global Warming.

Whether or not people believe that Global Warming is real, most all agree that Climate Change is real and present.

I do believe Global Warming is real and even if it's part of a natural trend, it has been exacerbated by human actions.
DeleteCheck out this article from July 30th:
"the earth has warmed 2.5 °F over the past 250 years, and 1.5 °F over the past fifty years, and that 'essentially all of this increase results from the human emission of greenhouse gases.'"
