Saturday in the Park

  1. Howard Dean is First for showing us the power of connecting through what is now called "social media."

The wealthy in this country can no longer buy elections, because even as attack ads and robocalls flood our lives during election season, we can individually and without cost offer balance and wisdom to one another. In the end, it's the voter in the voting booth that has the power!

  2. Hellish bad week with phone lines. Mike (my repair guy) showed up yesterday to inform me that my line is PERFECT (ie, nothing for him to repair). But it's been better today (it's warm: 60ยบ).

  3. President Obama has been declared the winner of Florida in the presidential election, the Associated Press reports.

    Electoral vote: 332 to 203.

  4. 332:203 is 62%:38%. Romney didn't even crack 40%. That's landslide territory.

  5. AP on the plight of the California GOP

OK as far as it goes, but it overemphasizes the role of demographics and hardly mentions the suicidal radicalization of the GOP (I remember it clearly starting in the mid-1960's).

Weather turned out beautiful, if a bit cool, today.

    1. Alan, that's because of the pro-Republican bias in the news media. I think it's very obvious, even on PBS.

From what little I've seen, Republicans have not learned their lesson. Rather, they are still howling about what a disgrace and shame it is that Obama won and that he will destroy the country. They will not be happy campers if, with a Democratically controlled Senate, he is finally able to get his program through.

  6. I know, Cat! Last night I was watching Bill Maher (far too late) and he had one conservative woman on. She kept going on and on about "the liberal media". I sure wish the wingnuts would tell me *where* the liberal media is! I would surely follow it closely. In fact, I think the media, in an effort to distance themselves from the "liberal" label were maneuvered to the right by the wingnuts. When will they (the media) learn that "liberal" is not a dirty word?

    1. You're right about the move to the Right, Susan. And I don't know when people, including the media, will learn that Liberal is not a dirty word. It isn't that popular even in the Democratic Party.

    2. Susan, I think all we have left is Rachel Maddow.

    3. You guys realize, Rachel Maddow is from W. Mass.

  7. puddle...

If your line really isn't perfect, then it might be good from the pole outward, but need to be checked at the house or jack. I think you deserve some sort of award for surviving it this long!

  8. They just announced on the news that Florida officially went to Obama.

My son says that Romney conceded Florida yesterday. I guess I missed the moment as we were tending VT*Grand.

  9. DEAN ALERT:

As you probably know, Howard Dean is in Thailand and walking to Myanmar to protest human trafficking.

Just heard about the 6.7 earthquake in Myanmar today. Earthquake info: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/usc000dqqw#summary

Yesterday Howard posted on his Facebook page that they were in Tokyo headed to Thailand.

The Earthquake link site says: "Felt in the Bangkok-Chiang Mai area, Thailand."

Here's where to follow the walkers:

  10. Just looked it up and I think Dean's group is about 600mi from the Earthquake.

    1. Thanks, Alan. On my way to bed, but I had to pause to read that.
