Same here, Cat. But starting tomorrow, with luck, a five day run of upper sixties/lower seventies. I am waiting. This cold is making me cranky about *being* cold. . . . And I never get the heating thing right this early in the season.
Hallo! Hallo! We got home safely this evening, thanks be to God!
My sister Patti’s wedding was beautiful, owing in part to the warm, sunny weather (phenomenally perfect after a day of deluge rain!) and the Baptist pastor’s excellent tending of both the ceremony and the few moments before and after. I love it when clergy do their part well! She was terribly nervous beforehand, which I thought so sweet for a woman of 60! Truth be told, upon reflection I think the reason she was nervous was because she and Jim chose not to see one another before the wedding, and she depends on his deep calm to keep her steady on. They are so good together!
This morning we had breakfast with my brother and his family before heading down to visit Larry and say our goodbyes.
Sweetie didn’t slept well last night due to a wicked case of acid reflux (a family trait), brought on by trying a little of my brother’s restaurant dish of very spicy Calamari (just to be polite!). This morning on our way to breakfast I managed to find him some Pepcid AC, which seems to have made a huge difference.
It was hard to see Larry...who had to stay inside the house on oxygen, and is on enough morphine that his words are slurred. We were allowed to go inside, a few at a time, to have a few private minutes together. Some of the siblings were teary eyed, but mostly we all allowed ourselves to focus on the theme for the day (they always have a theme!) of Treehouse Warming Party. The new treehouse, which Larry asked to have built for his grandchildren, was dedicated with a beautiful plaque explaining that it was created because he loves them. Larry came out onto the porch near the end of the time there and everyone got to give him a kiss and say goodbye. A very moving experience. On the way home, Sweetie was so tired that he fell*asleep*at*the*wheel for a few seconds!!! At which point, I swiftly learned how to drive his new car { !!! } and drove the rest of the way home. We are very glad to be here.
(I’m not mentioning the acid reflux or the nodding off on Facebook, of course. That’s just for my inner circle.)
Very good to have someone riding shotgun when driving while drowsy, that's for sure.
Nice weather here, and it was really clear Friday night. There was a magnitude 5.3 earthquake about 2400 hrs. Saturday, over along the San Andreas Fault about thirty miles from where I was working and maybe sixty or eighty miles from home. Miyoko felt it as a single sharp thump and saw the lamp over the dining table swinging. This morning she asked me about it and at first I said I didn't feel it--but then I remembered something. I roused myself from a cat nap and was doing some microbiology work at midnight (cultures to set up and to read), when I had what I thought must be a really bad spot of orthostatic hypotension (lightheadedness when standing up quickly, due to low blood pressure). I REALLY didn't feel well, and thought I must be working TOO hard, and had better not overdo it. Then this morning I realized it must have been the earthquake--rolling by, no notable shock or sound. Good for a laugh, that is.
Crazy busy week coming up. May not be checking in every day.
Alan! Guess what! Toward the end of the wedding reception, around 8pm, we all felt shaking and thought it must be another New England earthquake. But the shaking lasted a good two minutes and didn't rise and fall in intensity. So we wondered what else it might be. Finally we learned from one of the servers that it was the washing machine near the poolhouse beneath us, on spin cycle...!! LOL!
We joked that here in New England we only get earthquakes about the intensity of a washing machine on spin cycle! Truth be told, there have been two 7's here! (Turn of the last century, and in the 1920's. So maybe we're due too.)
Howard is always first, and I do so wish there existed an actual "Deanland". I'd sign up for citizenship right away.
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteMe, too, Susan!
ReplyDeletelistener, my heart's with you today. Safe journey.
Pleasant, sunny day here, though not as warm as yesterday.

ReplyDeleteI know, Puddle. The heat is tricky. And having a cold makes you miserable anyway. I hope you get over it soon! *hug*
