Wheel at the Barn

  1. Dr. Dean is tops!

Just left messages on the last thread.

So, I have on my neck some sort of rash that feels like dry skin meets heat rash. Itchy, but I haven't been playing with plants or anything. What are your favourite remedies? Help!

  2. You have my sympathy, listener. Seems like the last 10 days were nothing but new itches, lol! Never actually saw anything that looked like a bite, and I've been astonished over the years that I've gotten maybe two mosquito bites since I lived here. But itching patches once I hit the heat full time? Galore! One knee, then the other, one wrist, then the other. The toe thing was one foot only, and moved up to the top of the arch. Then we moved back through all of it. Only thing that helped was baking powder, in poultice -- that is, moisten the area and then pat a bunch of baking powder onto it. Hope that helps. Had I been closer to town, might have tried looking for one of the cortisone creams.

    1. Thanks! I'd forgotten about baking soda. I have a good cream the dermatologist gave me for when similar patches happen on my face, but I can only use it a couple times a day. In between I can try the baking soda.

And *you* have my sympathies as well! ♥

  3. Been trying to get all ma banking done before firing up Clementine. Clunky, to say the least. But done, so relief.

Also ordered a new collar for The Goobey. He outgrew the one he came in, and it was replaced with a new leather collar, purchased locally. They didn't have rolled leather which is much easier on their coat if you have a fluffy dog, but hey, he needed one, stat. He's managed to pull one of two rivets out (that hold the buckle on. . . I tried, during the outage a repair (sewing metal buttons on with ultra heavy thread); repair failed in a day, so really no choice. This one is actually a much better collar, and cost less. Some times I really love eBay. With luck this will last a few years. . . . and the band of missing hair rubbed out by the collar he's wearing will grow back. So a blessing, really.

    1. I remember being told by the collie rescue lady that I should get a rolled leather collar for Brady, so I did. He wore it almost the entire time I had him. But in those last few months, when I actually had to take hold of the collar on a regular basis, as part of the process of helping him get up to go outside, a crack developed in the collar, making it unusable.

So I went out and picked up a plain nylon collar at Target, and he wore that for those few months. When we took him to be cremated, as we were leaving, the woman asked if we wanted to take his collar and tags. My instinctive first reaction was, "Why? THAT is not Brady's collar!" But we took it home anyway. That way, we could put the tags with the old collar, which of course I had kept.

  5. puddle...good for you getting Beau a good Goobey collar! wOOf!

Renee...{{{ HUG }}} As I read your Brady story I realised I was thinking of the vet's office here where we took Emma's body after she died. Amazing how those moments stay with you, eh? ♥

  6. The kittens are faring well and are VERY happy here. I don't think we've ever had a cat who purred so much and BOTH of them purr great!

Within the next few days their antibiotic medicine will run out and we'll see where we're truly at. I'm a little nervous about it. They need to have no hacking or sneezing. Every time one of them sneezes I worry. It's rare and it could just be from encountering a dust bunny somewhere, but we'll know when we know.
