American Oystercatcher

TODAY is the day that Son*in*ME is at NCSU defending his Ph.D. Thesis on the subject of conservation of habitat for the American Oystercatcher. His Committee can ask him ANY question about Biology and he has to be able to answer it.

  1. Howard Dean is First and sharing the honour today with Son*in*Maine.
We should hear around dinnertime. Fingers, toes and prayers crossed.

  2. puddle, to answer your question from the other night...

No, I didn't get a nap. I made a conscious decision to forgo the nap and use the time I saved to go at a slower pace. Otherwise, I would have gotten a nap then had to go at breakneck speed the rest of the day, which would kind of defeat its purpose.

However! I got a full night of sleep last night and am aiming toward the same tonight!
Sure hope Son*in*Maine gets some sleep.

  4. Regarding Thursday:

The high temperature at Burlington International Airport in Burlington reached 81 degrees. This is a new record high temperature for March 22nd. The previous record high temperature for the date was 68 degrees which was set in 1938.

The high temperature at Mount Mansfield reached 65 degrees. This is a new record high temperature for March 22nd. The previous record high temperature for the date was 49 degrees which was set in 1979.

  5. Ah, listener! You and the kiddle will be in my heart today. All good vibes, and light. (At the same time, pure certainty that he'll do well. . . . ♥!!!)

  6. You know. . . . I *really* HATE dishonesty. Zone Alarm flashed me a little window saying I was unprotected, they no longer support the version I'm using. Just click, and in 90 seconds I'd have what I needed. I clicked. In 90 seconds I got an icon. I clicked the icon. It then proceeded to download something that was going to take 30 minutes. I went to bed. Just clicked the icon from the thirty minute download, and IT wants to download something. So clicked *that* -- it is NOW downloading something that's going to take 247 minutes to download. . . . I prolly would have if they'd told me up front. But I'd have been prepared. This stinks.

Kind of reminds me of DFA claiming a million members because at one point Howard had a million email addies. . . . Just profoundly dishonest.

  7. Now it's switching back and forth between one second remaining and 379 minutes remaining. Getting the feeling that this isn't going to be a successful download.

Hope it will be. In fact, I'm really wondering if this is a download or the new version checking all your files. I've often seen wildly varying estimates of how long it will take to run through files on my computer because the software only knows how many files there are, not how big each is.

  9. Says it's 55% done with 247 minutes remaining, lol! Thanks for the good wishes, lol!

  10. Just before 3pm, we got this message from DIL*in*Maine (who is in NC)...

He did awesome with his presentation (not a big surprise there), and is behind closed doors now. Just thought you might want an update. :-)

We are hopeful, though not complacent...given that nothing about this journey has been predictable. But for the sake of the well being of the creatures who need Son*in*Maine's help, I certainly hope that his Committee sees his brilliance today.

They started at 1:30pm and we should hear something around dinnertime. Prayers appreciated. Send him some strong bird vibes! ♥

Hat tip to Son in Ohio who told me about it.

  12. Lost the connection at 72%. Luckily, it's the new modern improved version that doesn't make you start over. So the latest word is: 41 minutes left. . . .

  20. We're a little surprised that the new Doctor never called home today. We learned about his great Success on Facebook...! I guess that's how this generation operates. He's out at the "After" party tonight. Maybe we'll hear from him tomorrow.

Just so deep down happy for him, anyway...!!!

  21. Storms still there; still headed north. Pleasure to watch, lol!

  24. I appreciated that the line of tornadic storms split as it entered NC and barely bothered Raleigh today. Sad for all the places that got hit hard, though!
