All together again for another Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. Bet Howard's first this fine Thanksgiving morning.

Thank you all for all you've added to my life in so many ways over the years.

And OOPS! Almost wrecked the cheesecake! Forgot to turn the oven down to 250º after the first ten minutes. . . . Was smelling way too done for how much time I still had left. So opened the door to let the heat out, cut the remaining time in half, and we'll see. What's going on today?

Nope: Mercury Retrograde doesn't start for two more weeks.

  2. There was frost on my car by the time I left work this evening; that's very unusual here. Predicted low 25 to 31.

Busy day at Salt Mine No. 1; left some things for Monday that I should have preferred to do today, but that's nothing new. Business is off this year, but only about 5% because of new clients acquired; sometime next year we should be in a good position to expand into other states and acquire more in-state work to boot. Medical insurance deductibles will probably be going up--it would cost the company 20% (!) more for the coverage we have now, which is Kaiser's next-to-best plan. Well, I go on Medicare next year, which should be easier on the company. Speaking of Kaiser, I get a routine follow-up CT scan on Monday. My oncologist figures that if I were twenty or more years younger he wouldn't to it because of the radiation dose, but given my age the increment in risk is minor compared to missing a recurrence. Zero reason to expect anything but good news.

    Happy Turkey (or whatever) day!

  3. It's a little late, but what the heck--I'm going to watch Repo Man, the 1985 "cult classic." Looks intriguingly weird...

  4. "Repo Man" is a seriously weird B movie...

Just stopping by to wish y'all a happy Thanksgiving. I'm going to a friend's house so all I have to make is an appetizer. Paula Deen has an interesting recipe for an artichoke spinach dip made with with pepper jack cheeze. Hope it turns out ok (and edible.)

  6. Sounds wonderful! Maybe just because I adore every one of the ingredients mentioned, lol!

Slept well, knees almost back to perfect. Now, all I need to do is get enough caffeine/nicotine into the system so that the eyes will open.

Cold and sunny. No evidence of the dreaded and predicted freezing rain.

Hope everyone has a wunnerful one!

  7. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Cold and gloomy here, but none of the freezing rain/snow that earlier predictions had suggested.

Our traditional Thanksgiving dinner is king crab legs, so preparation isn't a big deal.

  8. Health care refrom means I no longer have to worry about deductibles with either Medicare (plus supplement) or Medicare drug plan. Drug costs for a given tier are going up sharply, but for me, personally, that's offset by having my one brand-name drug shifted from tier 3 to tier 2 (i.e., the drug insurance carrier has cut a discount deal with the manufacturer). I don't expect to reach the gap, but if I do the burden will be a bit less than it would have been this year.

  9. Nice clear day, good for continuing with drying persimmons; actually seemed warm in the afternoon because there was no wind. Coming nights are supposed to be less cold, no frost. T-Day dinner fine as usual; for some reason the gravy came out slightly sweet--I have no idea why. I could send in a picture of persimmons drying if that would be of interest, but don't know the file size restrictions. company Xmas party/dinner next week. This is the first place I have worked where it wasn't an ordeal for me.

  11. No kidding, puddle?!? Did you see my post last evening? I did the same thing! Here you go:

I made three pies today! One twice. Heh. Pumpkin went fine, Deep Dish Apple went fine, then made a Cherry pie up special for Daughter's birthday (we'll put the candles in that) ~ lattice top with pretty cherry and maple leaves along the edges and scattered across the top. So of course it was the Cherry I had the oven problem with. I put it in to bake at 450 for 10 minutes, then set the oven to time the next 40 minutes and neglected to turn the oven down for the last 40 minutes! I caught it after 30 minutes, but the edges were dark brown to black. Blah! So I figured we'd just use the 100%-from-scratch Apple as the birthday pie and use the cherry filling over some Cherry Garcia ice cream.

But! My knight in shining armour, who had just returned from errands all over town, suggested that he go out and get me more filling supplies. So while he ran out for more frozen cherries, I made more dough! This time it came out perfect! Yayyyy! Cherry pie is Daughter's favourite.

  12. HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!!!

We are down to one guest left, so I'm popping in to say hallo and see how everyone's day went.

We had a very enjoyable day, with Daughter and Son and Friend and Friend's Daughter. Everyone else called home to wish Daughter a happy birthday. We had the big meal around 1:00pm and everything was done and hot at the same time, no one had a melt down, no one yelled at anyone else and there was lots of laughter. A great day.

At the same time I am still definitely suffering with a terrible sore throat and am thinking I'm going to have to brave icy roads tomorrow to see a doctor to determine whether this is strep throat. Youngest Son called from his fiancee's parent's house in NH today to tell us that her great grandmother, age 99, died today due to double pneumonia which she only came down with on Monday. So they all didn't make a Thanksgiving Day Dinner but instead drove to MA to see her, and saw her just 20 minutes before she died. So glad they made it. He definitely feels like a full member of her family after this experience together. They all plan to have The Meal over the weekend and on Monday they'll have a service in her honour.

Plus one DIL tore a ligament in her foot this week and the other DIL got two weeks notice that her job has been phased out.

The weather held out for folks to travel today safely up here. A beautiful day with sunshine. I am so grateful for my family and other loves ones, friends, fellow bloggers, and all the children in the world, all the innocent, kind souls, and life in all its moods, even sore throated.

  15. Well, I did stop in Harrisonburg and went grocery shopping. They really did have some very good deals, lol! But the parking lot and the store weren't very crowded. . . .

Lovely weather for the whole of the trip, but very frosty when I got back here at seven -- 27º!

    Hope ya'll had lovelies!
