Cat...nope, not rested yet. We ended up moving most of the books back into the Children's Room at the Library on Friday, so it was basically like lifting weights all day. Then a dear friend was in town for a funeral, so I visited with her. Then a friend of Hubby's called saying he was in town on a work project and could we all get together for dinner. So it was a long, full day at the end of an exhausting week.
I now have the next THREE days off!!! But tonight I have what may be the first symptoms of the illness Hubby came down with while in Maine. If so, I should have a fever this time tomorrow night, and the whole thing should last about...three days.
Swell. Luck thing you happen to h ave three days off. *heavy irony*
Jees, listener. Do you take enough vitamins...or something? It seems like you're always sick. *hug* I sure hope you can nip this in the bud and get better soon♥
OK. So, now that you've all laughed at me, and given me good advice, and posted other songs, songs that *made it*, could you please all, as representative members of, I donno, the record-buying public say, tell me whether my lyric is all right or trash? I'm serious. I need to know. Consider yourselves beta testers. It might be fabulous, or it might be fish and chips wrapping quality. I honestly can't tell. So I'd appreciate you, my friends, people I love and trust, letting me know. Would you buy a record, or download an MP3 or whatever, of a song with that lyric?
What I said (verbatim) was: And it ain't got NOTHING on what you already have, lyrics wise. . . .
But. I don't know of a single song, evah, that made it on its lyrics. . . . Poetry is one critter, lyrics and bonded with their music. I don't think you can separate them.
Gee, Cat--I'd be glad to help if I could, but I don't know beans about that.
Absent yesterday because after I got home I had to take care of a rather lengthy job for an attorney, due without fail today. Worked on it to midnight and a bit more, but got it done.
Still a little tired from all the work of the past couple of weeks, but have the weekend at home to rest up. Should be fine. Working up to getting a new iMac in about ten days. New desk came in today, various accessories are on the way. Finally figured out what I wanted to do for pointing/control device. Will get the big wireless trackpad, and add a USB mouse like the one we currently have. (Apple "Pro Mouse," out of production for several years, but still possible to purchase new--any color you want as long as it is black. You want white, you can buy used.) That's about the last decision on hardware. Looking into getting a better Internet connection--will find out if that is possible tomorrow (I think it is). Bundled with telephone the cost might be tolerable--perhaps not much more than I pay now.
Well, off to do a bit of surfing, continue to relax, and then to bed. One thing I know is on the schedule tomorrow morning is the farmers' market. That's always enjoyable.
I thought puddle had said it so well there was little else to say. Let me add, then, that I think your lyrics are quite good. They are meaningful and loving without being sappy, which is a hard balance to strike. But the way for you to see that for yourself may be to think of 5 songs you like a lot, then sit down and read the text of their lyrics out loud, without the music. I think you will find that most songs have catchy tunes while their lyrics when taken just as poetry are rather mundane. Occasionally there are songs with great lyrics, but the tune is very off putting. So that's where some wisdom is needed as to the style of music that goes with the lyrics. I imagine yours could be sung by a group like the Carpenters or one of your favourite crooners.
Puddle, I'm sorry. I only saw the Gordon Lightfoot song you posted. Read your comments twice, but didn't see your kind words of praise. They mean a lot to me. Thank you.
As to your point about the merging of words and music, I agree completely. A song is its whole, both words and music. That's why it always amazes me to think of a team, two or more people, writing a song. The mind meld must have to be pretty complete.

Found Collection, lol! She got it via Beck, based on this:
But I also began to realize that I wasn’t just helping other people. Through service, I found a community that embraced me; citizenship that was meaningful; the direction I’d been seeking. Through service, I discovered how my own improbable story fit into the larger story of America.
Each of you will have the chance to make your own discovery in the years to come. And I say “chance” because you won’t have to take it. There’s no community service requirement in the real world; no one forcing you to care. You can take your diploma, walk off this stage, and chase only after the big house and the nice suits and all the other things that our money culture says you should by. You can choose to narrow your concerns and live your life in a way that tries to keep your story separate from America’s.
But I hope you don’t. Not because you have an obligation to those who are less fortunate, though you do have that obligation. Not because you have a debt to all those who helped you get here, though you do have that debt.
It’s because you have an obligation to yourself. Because our individual salvation depends on collective salvation. Because thinking only about yourself, fulfilling your immediate wants and needs, betrays a poverty of ambition. Because it’s only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you realize your true potential and discover the role you’ll play in writing the next great chapter in America’s story.
There are so many ways to serve and so much need at this defining moment in our history. You don’t have to be a community organizer or do something crazy like run for President. Right here at Wesleyan, many of you have already volunteered at local schools, contributed to United Way, and even started a program that brings fresh produce to needy families in the area. One hundred and sixty-four graduates of this school have joined the Peace Corps since 2001, and I’m especially proud that two of you are about to leave for my father’s homeland of Kenya to bring alternative sources of energy to impoverished areas.
Err, what's Slimeball Beck doing quoting the President? I presume this *is* the President?
Also, aren't RW nuts interested exclusively in promoting Number One? Why would Beck be interested in anything concerned, however remotely, with public service?
from FB: Adam-Troy Castro Glenn Beck maintains that Stephen King is jealous of his writing success. I am not kidding. Glenn Beck has said that Stephen King -- not just author of dozens of bestsellers but the ardent champion of Rowling and ther commercial behemoths who either match or exceed him in sales - is jealous of his writing success. Glenn Beck says this. And Fabio is jealous of my hair.
Well. . . . Beck is a "reformed" alkie (AKA dry drunk), and ADHA. . . . But I hate to see him giving either group a bad name. Ruined his first marriage with drugs and drink, found a new wife and went "church shopping" with her, and settled on the Mormons. Don't blame them either. . . . I think he IS evil in every way that matters.
The two quotes he uses on his website are from 1995 and 1998 (evidently the only two times Obama ever used the phrase, lol!) Finally did put it in a note on facebook.
Hi all. Just ran by to see what's doing. Going out to the country to my brother's house tomorrow. Son #2 wants me to go make some Amish sugar cookies to take along. I suspect that he intends to capture the lion's share of them.
listener, I wasn't trying to diss short hair-wearers. Just wondering why short hair is so prevalent among my age group. My hair sure isn't lustrous and shiny, but then it's not gray either. Mostly brown with the gray frosting here and there. Like puddle I like choices. I usually wear my hair in some kind of "up", rarely wear it down.
And that's way more info about my hair than anybody cares to hear.
Yikes! The wonder is that anybody would have him. No, indeed, I don't blame the Mormons. Feel sorry for them rather. Not to mention anyone foolish enough to marry him! Poor woman!
One thing just discovered this last year is that those tall twisty buns (like the ones in Lautrec's paintings) are actually a way to "curl" hair. Gives a lot of body to the top, and curls the ends. Whodathunkit?
The instructor I'm filling in for this coming Wednesday sent me her PowerPoint notes for the class. I should take a look at that.
Well, I'll make sure to look at it before class time. The chapter I'm supposed to cover is on adolescence. Bleah. Living it. Don't feel like reading about it right now.
This is exactly why I love living in a small town...
The Community Center has a hive of bees in the wall we need to get rid of. An expert beekeeper is willing, with some helpers, to move them, but we need a carpenter to cut open the wall from the inside and then later re-do the wall. A protective hat and gloves will be provided, and we have scaffolding to use. The carpenter should not be mind working from the scaffolding or be terrified of bees. Any suggestions are welcomed.
I had a swarm of bees one time. Didn't take long to find out who'd take them away, lol! And be delighted to do so. . . . But that was just a bush next to my patio. Whew!
Dean is first!
ReplyDeleteAnd I left two messages about hair and self contempt on the last thread! :-)

ReplyDeleteGot 'em.
Actually, the song from Hair that I like is "Good Morning Starshine."

Naw, I'm not always sick. I just don't report about when I'm feeling well! LOL!

Helps a lot. Thanks, listener.
ReplyDeleteAnd, thanks, all of you, for putting up with my whining.

Beautiful weather here today. It helps.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little worried about my kitty. She's been spending an awful lot of time sleeping the past several days. But she seems content when awake,...
