I'm still in shock: another place I blog, one of the guys just died tonight. He was fine three weeks ago, joking cheerful, a really lovely human being. Then pain, colon cancer, clots. And gone. Tell someone you love them tonight!!
OH WOW, puddle. How utterly shocking, sad and poignant! How old a man was he? Does he leave family? Such a loss. My heart goes out to all his loved ones.
I know it could "happen anytime" to any of us should we meet with some unfortunate accident. We live our lives not thinking about it every minute because that would muck with our focus, choices and accomplishments long-term. Still we each die with some unfinished business.
What my dear friend Jerry May taught me is: Be present. Live until you die.
Ohhhh man. We were just driving up our road headed home and saw that a bird was in the road unable to fly. We quickly sized up the situation as a cat was stalking nearby. So we stopped the car between the cat and the bird and I jumped out, shooed off the cat, and went to see if the bird could yet be helped (it could still hop). The car behind us stopped too, to allow me into the road safely. But the person driving the oncoming oversized pickup truck with trailer quite deliberately ran over the bird, and mushed it flat right in front of me! I am not sorry that i shouted, "IDIOT!!" in my loudest voice! Hubby took up the remains to give the poor creature a little dignity at the last. We are both bummed. Hubby said, "I'm betting he wasn't a liberal Democrat."
Just peeked in. Have to go make a "Happy Everything" card for my friend. I *finally* got her secret super-special quilt finished and hope to deliver it this week.
Tomorrow is Littlest*Granddaughter's 1st birthday! I spoke to her Daddy today (aka Wildlife*Biologist*Son) and asked how it looks for when he's going to the Gulf. Turns out he's been ready for awhile and so have all the others. They are STILL waiting for the official word from BP that the funding is available. And every day counts. =Sigh=
I still remember driving to Maine last year, on the day L*G was born, and it raining, and seeing rainbows all along the way, especially one ending at the exit to the hospital and another ending in the hospital's parking lot! :-) She is such a sweetie! ♥
Just signed up for facebook, so I could write on his memorial page. And pardon me if I say, absolutely terrifying how fast facebook came up with peeps I might know. From long ago and far away. In seven seconds. . . . (and this place ate my first post, lol! )
Forgot to say that I caught a ray of sunshine this afternoon when I saw our Boy for a few minutes on the tube. Dad was watching Chris Wallace when I went to ask him something and he said, "Your man Dean is on." I knew Howard wasn't the one speaking at that moment, but I hung around and, sure enough, there he was. The other guest was Newt Gingrich *gag* In the few minutes I saw him, Howard acquitted himself with intelligence and like a gentleman, as usual. He even said something nice about Newt. Like I say, a ray of sunshine.
Me bein' 63 and all, that strikes pretty close. I got off lucky--still cured as far as anyone can tell, although the docs don't dare use the word. Continue to improve a bit from the results of the treatments, but plenty good enough as things are.
Howard is definitely first!

ReplyDeleteJust goes to show there's never a shortage of stupidity or cruelty.

ReplyDeleteLater taters.
Thank-you, Susan! Somehow just hearing about you finishing that quilt feels like comfort to me.
ReplyDeleteSend me a photo of it and I'll post it, if you like! ♥

ReplyDeleteWell, facebook just crashed me. First crash on "new" computer. . . . Don't bode well, lol!
ReplyDeleteCrash all the time, so I can't decide whether to be sympathetic or disdainful. On the whole, I guess sympathy is in order. *wry grin*
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean you don't want my FB page so you can become my "friend?"
:-) DELIGHTED! ♥
ReplyDeleteGee, and I was just wondering how Facebook and Dialup get along.
