Worked last evening so had to miss the candidates' forum. So I emailed in a question to the station manager and he let me know he'd give it to the moderator. I had the forum on my laptop at work, but was too busy there to really see it. So I asked someone who was there. They didn't use my question. Dang!
I wonder if Sheriff Chuck ever takes his act on the road. The fabulous weather blog I've been part of for years has slowly come to a standstill since the guy whose blog it is hasn't been heard from since February! I've called and left messages on his phone and no response. It's a very sad mystery! He's young (30's) and had a sweetie, and the message on the machine has changed a couple of times, just a little. So it's really strange. He's not the sort to walk away or blow off the blog either. Since he lives in a big town, doesn't have a medical condition and I don't know his address, I don't suppose his local Sheriff Chuck would oblige. Anyone got any idears?
Maybe he just got tired of it, listener. I had the same thing on a blog I loved to read, and the guy just stopped posting over a year ago. I have no idea why, but I'm sorry he stopped. Sometimes things just get to be too much work. It happens.
Right. The guy who ran the Dean for Illinois e-mail list simply disappeard. Which meant there was no way to discontinue that list when Democracy for illinois replaced it.
I've had four people on my favorites list at Plenty of Fish die. Only one had a family remember who shut down his profile. The others are still there. . . .
The thing is, after years of blogging and always being so present and fun and responsible, and having been in email contact with a bunch of us, he simply disappeared. If he had decided to stop blogging I am utterly certain he would have told us. If he had died, his sweetie would have come by and told us, since she sometime blogged with us too, and knew what that blog meant to him. If something had happened to both of them, why would they still have an active phone message machine 5 months later? The pieces just don't fit together.
It's not only a matter of remembering. There are log ins and passwords involved. For instance, nobody knows how to get into all my various online accounts, including e-mail. If I were to become incapacitated and unable to talk, nobody could let you guys or anyone else know, even if they thought of it. Same for Sis. I couldn't get into her FB account if something happened to her. Maybe she and I should talk about swapping info just in case...
listener, if you've left messages on his phone and he hasn't called you back, it's a pretty good sign he's all done .... whatever the reason. Sometimes you just don't get answers.
Life is funny ~~ My friend who died Saturday was a biker, conservative, former teacher, musician, hated the new mosque in NYC AND thought Arizona's immigration law is a travesty.
This time around, I've had firefox remember pretty much EVERY password. So if something happens to me, all Scotty or whomsoever needs to do is find the sites I've used. Also leaving my history at about a week. . . . Plus I leave my daily ones up all the time, ff saves em and I start the day that way. Even if ff doesn't have enough space or maybe time to cache everything, at least the urls are there. And bookmarks to remind. . . He's got verbal instructions to let my blogs know if I kick the bucket, and maybe my email lists.
Howard's first, but that view runs him a pretty close second.
ReplyDeleteThanks, puddle! :-)

I come across abandoned web sites and blogs fairly frequently. And, yes, I always wonder what happened. But, there really isn't anything you can do.

ReplyDeleteKind of a strange combination of idears...
ReplyDeleteThink I've located the LP I've been looking for. Has anybody ever made a purchase through GEMM?
ReplyDeleteNope. What/who is it?
