I appear to be the first to point out the firstlyness of Dr. Dean on this thread. Haven't been keeping up , but will probably go back and take care of that on Monday. Tuckered out from the weekend right now. Had one of those nice things happen today that come along once in a great while in a hospital lab and that one can live off of for a long time. The great majority of the work we do really doesn't affect patient care, but sometimes it does so in spades. I anticipated that the ER doc would order certain tests on a urine specimen, and did them while awaiting orders since it hardly cost anything. I was mistaken in thinking that the tests would be ordered, but to the patient's benefit, because a very serious (but treatable) condition had evidently presented abnormally and hadn't been recognized. Instead of sending her home as planned, they worked to stabilize her and were getting ready to ship her off to a major medical center for a possible kidney transplant. If they had sent her home she would have been in really bad shape when/if she was brought back to the ER. The doctor and nurses had very nice words for me. TTFN
Howard Dean is first, and I don't know what the heck I'm doing up at this hour.
Oh, and in regard to last thread and jets. Until all the planes were grounded after 9/11 I didn't realize how much noise they generate. It was so peaceful and quiet without them.
Every time I hear one overhead I think of how terrifying that sound must be to the populations we're bombing. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.
Alan, I salute you! You are exactly the person we need in our labs! I am heartglad that the docs and nurses were pleased, rather than feeling that you had somehow overstepped, since they hadn't "ordered" the tests yet. Ego has no place in a situation like that. Bravo!
Oh wow. You make me feel humbled. I've been complaining at times when a little Cessna flies over our backyard. There is a tiny airport a few miles from our house where a few touring planes take off and land. Ours sounds just like "Five O'clock Charlie" of M*A*S*H fame. LOL!
We get the occasional F18 overhead, but that's only once every 6 weeks or so.
I'll stop complaining after hearing what you folks suffer through!
Susan, I also relished those few days of quiet. I felt a little guilty for loving it, given the cause, but it was lovely.
I also sometimes think of the people we're bombing and shelling and Lord knows what all else. It makes me heartsick, but nobody, nobody in authority at least, is the slightest bit interested in my opinion.
I hear ya, Cat. When Bush was in office I used to say I felt like a back seat passenger in a car driven by a drunk. I'm especially disappointed that I now feel like a back seat passenger in a car driven by a driver who refuses to use any gear other than reverse. Why, oh why couldn't we have Howard?
Whoo, it's hot enough to melt a brass monkey! It hit at least 96 degrees today here in NW VT! Why can't we just have Spring and Fall and skip the extreme seasons? (See what I mean, Susan? Fussy! LOL!)
Well, listener, that would involve some pretty fancy footwork with temporal relastatics, and I don't think our physics community is quite there yet. 8)
Last night I watched the first hour or so of A Capital Fourth, which was good. Loved hearing Gladys Knight. The boy from American Idol has a lovely voice, though there's no power behind it. He's only nineteen or twenty, I gather, so he'll grow into his voice. Even the Country guy, Darius something, was good though I had no intention of showing Dad I enjoyed his performance. He finished his set with "God Bless the USA," which is a pretty good song. I couldn't remember if it was written by Bruce Springstein or Neil Diamond, but didn't get around to googling it till just now. The song was written by a Country musician named Lee Greenwood. Ya learn something new every day.
90ยบ today. Hottest of the year, and likely the hottest since I've been here. Plus side, humidity 27% and I own an a/c which does work. Did my burn tonight just at dusk, and a small cool breeze was kickin' in. Had avocado toast for lunch. Life is good. Wishing for some rain though: spring is back down to nuthin' . . . .

It's all relative, listener. What applies to you isn't diminished by what applies to others.

ReplyDeleteNaw. I'm just fussy about silence. LOL!
