Here's the latest on Charlie UPDATE - March 24, 2010
Charlie held without bond in Osceola County Jail Charlie was transferred down to Kissimmee from the Alachua County Jail at 2:00 am Tuesday (this morning), and his first appearance hearing is at 1:00 pm today. He is reportedly being held on a Violation of Probation warrant from Osceola County, and according to the Osceola authorities there will be no bond.
TELEPHONE CALLS TO THE OSCEOLA COUNTY JAIL TO INQUIRE ABOUT CHARLIE'S STATUS WILL HELP TO ENSURE HIS PERSONAL SAFETY. HIS JAILERS NEED TO KNOW HE HAS SUPPORT AND PEOPLE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HIM.

I am never ever going to set toenail in Florida. If you venture there, don't drink the water.
Definitely going to call that jail today, though I believe it's futile. They do not care about justice or humanity. They never have in all my lifetime.
Charlie is such a good soul; I pray for his well being. I pray he will yet get out of that horrible state. Should he ever get to live up here, he won't believe his good luck.
My heart goes out to each of you who care about him. Never give up on caring. ♥
Hey! I called the Osceola Jail and tried my best to decipher the menu. I ended up pressing "1" for inmate information, then "6" for the Chaplaincy Office.
They cannot visit Charlie unless he requests it but if the chaplain is down his way they can at least say, "Hey, how are you doing?" to see if he wants a contact. They also cannot pass messages to Charlie, which makes sense. I said I didn't think Charlie had a particular faith tradition but that he is a spiritual person and I'd appreciate it if they'd look in on him if they're in his vicinity, as his parents are elderly and cannot visit and many of his friends live out of state. We'll see. Chaplaincy folks are the kindest in the system, so we can hope!
And here's some good news!!! Charlie is being held in the GENERAL part of the jail, not the medical, and he does NOT have a "no contact" order.
This means that WE CAN WRITE TO HIM!!! So okay bloggers! Here's your assignment for today! WRITE TO CHARLIE!!! Let's flood the place with mail!

We can send hand-written letters only (nothing typed!) and up to three photographs. Obviously nothing contraband or explicit. (LOL!) Of course everything is read before he sees it, so bear that in mind.
Handwritten only, nothing typed. That's *real* nice. I couldn't *write* a letter to save my life. Can barely write my own name. So, if I were Charlie's sister, say, or best friend, I'd be denied the right to write to him. And what conceivable purpose does such a stupid ban serve anyway. In credibly stupid!
We've finally made a choice on our new nome heating system. Not much difference between the two bids, but Penny wanted to go with the guy who seemed more engaged with the problems of getting the old, presumably asbestos-covered boiler out of the house. The other guy, although he lives in the area, apparently hasn't had a lot of experience with these boilers from the coal-fired era. Regardless, I feel much more relaxed just knowing the decision has been made.
The semi-bad news is that it will take roughly two weeks just to get an asbestos-removal permit from the county. (We called an asbestos-abatement company today; somebody is combing out Friday.) Fortunately, after further discussion it turns out that the new boiler can be installed before the old one is taken out. Just put it in a spot a few feet away, which Penny says she likes better anyway.
The guesstimated cost for asbestos removal is around $2000. I'm not totally surprised, although I'd hoped for something closer to $1000.
Ah, yikes, Bill ~~ I remember those from my childhood. Great big fat with many arms, lol! They just put our gas heater inside it. I spect it's still sitting there like that. . . . But it'll be good to have it done and out of the way.
Sort of what happened here. The original boiler is still there and working. But instead of the fire-pit (if that's the right term) for burning coal we now have a gas burner. Which is itself probably a half-century old.
Yeah, Bill. That's what Daughter discovered too, when she had the asbestos removed from her basement. It really is a good thing to have it done professionally, and when it's done right it really is costly...because they have to pay such huge fees to pay to get rid of it. =Sigh=
What this does to Charlie is entirely up to the judge he goes before. The judge could revoke his probation and send him to jail. Or do any number of other things, including finding that there was no probation violation and reinstate the sentence as it was before.
Howard's first.
