Got OBAMA sign?

listener took this photo in Maine

Somebody stole our Obama sign today. We paid $8 for it, too. What's more, somebody stole one of Daughter's Obama signs today too. Hubby (who is there helping with renovations) says she went right down to the local police station and reported it. I said, "Hey! I should do that! Where is ours?"

Hmmm...I guess we're a bit more rural than Daughter is.  What really makes me mad, though, is that under the official Obama sign was my original hand-made one, and they took that too.

So I am going to go work at the Dem office later this week and see if they have any left. (Doubtful.)  Failing that I may have to make another one.  (Hey Reed, got any left??)

Friday Open Thread

John Cleese on Sarah Palin:

"What fascinates me is: People watching her on television – can they not see that she's basically learned certain speeches? She does them very well, she's got a very good memory, but it's like a nice-looking parrot," Cleese told the Seesmic.com website.

"Because the parrot speaks beautifully and kind of says "aw, shucks" every now and again, but doesn't really have any understanding of the meaning of the words it is producing, even though it's producing them very accurately."

Cleese added: "I mean, Monty Python could have written this. And I'm sorry, Michael Palin, to say you're not the funniest Palin any more, but you're not."

Actually, I think Cleese give parrots short shrift here...

I was watching a Nature program about puppies the other day. Winnie here was quite impressed by the sound quality.

"Where ARE those puppies? I can't see them, but I sure can hear them!"

Yes on Issue 5

From my inbox

Good evening!

The national payday-lending lobby currently has its 5th ad on the air. We have our first -- on cable only. The Is 391% Too High? Vote Yes on Issue 5 Committee is leading an uphill fight for the YES vote on Issue 5 and we'd really appreciate it if you could post our new ad on your blog.

Two additional clever, funny and very low budget videos we put together are available here: http://www.yesonissue5.com/videos.html

Thank you very much!

Kelan

Considered posting one of the political images from Pundit Kitchen, but wasn't sure if it would be overkill on the Sarah Palin jokes. So I'm just going with the kitty picture, but also posting a link to the political funnies.

PUFFIN, THE BULL TERRIER, KNOWS WHAT'S WHAT!

I have a friend in Boston who raises Bull Terriers and trains owners,
and is a board certified behavior analyst.
She sent us this photo of PUFFIN, who is strongly supporting Barack Obama.

John McCain may try to claim that he is like Teddy Roosevelt,
but, hey, Puffin has a nose!

Gorgeous dog! Woof!

This is a trip...

Of course, we photographed John McCain and Tina Fey together. He was thrilled to meet her and they got along very well: They had lunch and he gave her an impromptu tour of the Senate building. Makes us wonder if when McCain met Palin for the first time, he said, ‘You know, you remind me of someone…'”

Roger Ebert evaluates the debate as "theater"

Here.

A couple of my favorite parts:

I sensed that Sarah Palin was nervous. Well, she had every right to be, and as I thought about the debate during the day on Thursday, I felt some empathy for her: In university terms, she was being asked to defend her doctoral thesis without having written it. If that had been me facing Joe Biden with the same preparation, I don't know if I could even have walked onto the stage.

And...

Listening to her voice, you could also sense when she felt she'd survived the deep waters of improvisation and was climbing onto the shore of talking points.
I would love to have his ability to put words together so well!
