Kyle Cheney of Politico reported last month that the Trump administration has lost nearly 10,400 court cases over DHS immigration detentions while prevailing in about 1,200. That translates to a 90% loss rate. More than 425 judges—an overwhelming majority of them—have decided against the administration. Cheney notes that even a majority of the judges Trump himself appointed have decided against the administration on immigration." June 2, 2026 HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
Not a quiet day here, though. we had to get. up early because the contractor came to install our new hot water heater. It's great to have hot water again. But it was a bit disruptive for the Robin on the porch, since they had to use the front door to do the work. And, of course, tomorrow is the first anniversary of Shiloh's death. So we've been reflecting on it all. Tomorrow is also Eldest's 51st birthday, so we're having him over for dinner and cake and a bonfire. Root*Center*Son will come too. We all need that.
"Separately on Wednesday, the House also advanced a bill to both provide additional aid to Ukraine and impose new sanctions on Russia. That vote was 218-205, with six Republicans joining Democrats.
"Democrats used a discharge petition to force the Ukraine aid vote, going around House GOP leaders who control floor action.
"A vote on final passage could happen as soon as Thursday."
The House has passed a War Powers resolution, with four Reps joining all Dems in voting Yea. It now goes to the Senate, where it is expected to pass. Even though Trump is expected to veto the measure, which does not have a vetoproof majority in either chamber, the mere passage of the resolution is considered to send a strong message.
It would be a stronger message if the damned Congress could override, but I guess we have to take what we can get.
Here's a tidbit that should give HEP cats a smile:
9% of Americans think it is acceptable for Trump and Co. to put his name on public buildings while he is in office. 10% of Americans think the Earth is flat. 12% of Americans think the Moon landings were faked.
Is it really true that 10% of Americans still think the Earth is flat? Where does that statistic come from? I'm so curious! Mind you, I totally believe the other stats.
