Good Friday

In 1994, Wil and listener attended a weeknight Eucharist service held
in
this space, before it was consecrated as a Memorial Garden.
In fact, the only persons present were ourselves and the Rev. Al Stefanik,
for what we used to sometimes dub Wednesday night "Schulte Chapel" service.

Al told us that evening of the plan to create a memorial garden there.
We feel a special connection to it.

  1. Good morning! We had a full choir for the Holy Thursday service last night. Full choir means all four of us. Lots of singing and some chanting. Today the weather here is nice, which it won't be over the weekend, apparently. Our dogs are suggesting that we spend all day outside.

    1. Thanks for checking in, Renee!!
A choir of four means every voice counts!

Today I went to a truly amazing “Stations of the Cross.” Each station had artwork done by a different person, in many varied mediums.

At the station where Jesus is arrested, there was a sculpture of hands bound at the wrists (too similar to those stolen by ICE). One of the hands in the sculpture reaches towards the observer. Very compelling.

Beautiful embroidery of a closeup of Mary and John at the foot of the cross.

But, oh!, my friend Mark outdid himself with the final station depicting Jesus buried. He chose a large knot of burly wood, added a small hand-carved angel with outstretched arms near the top, a green plant behind to one side, and a stone at the base in front of the opening to the tomb. But! There must have been a flickering (battery operated) candle in the tomb and the light of it peeked out around the stone, with movement that was like life itself. Death shall not have the final word.

Especially with democracy being crucified this year, I left a bit choked up… Sat in my car awhile before driving. Wil and I will go to the protest tomorrow in Montpelier, before stopping home and
