For notable public speakers of recent times, we have (in my opinion and in chronological order) FDR, JFK, the early Reagan, and Harris. Of the lot, I think that Harris may prove the best debater, but that is yet to be fully seen. ----Alan
She certainly has the intelligence and diction to do this very well. Looking forward to the debate. Just wish it wasn't scheduled for my birthday. The Biden-DT debate was held on the eve of our 50th Anniversary. Sheesh!
I recently suspected that Harris might have taken Public Speaking in college; it seems (very reasonably) to be a significant part of the curriculum at Howard University, although I didn't verify if it was a graduation requirement (as it was at the state college I attended). They have both lower and upper division courses, and it seems to be integrated into many other classes. And she was a member of a (political science?) debate team. Add to that her experience as an attorney and as VP. If TFG should have the nerve to "debate" her, I figure that he is going to be massacred, flayed, demolished, or whomped but good. [choose whatever verb appeals to you]. -----Alan
And of course there's the program Arthur Dent proposes for Mr. Prosser: "You barbarians! I'll sue the council for all it's got! I'll have you hung, drawn and quartered! And whipped! And boiled... until... until... until you've had enough! And then I will do it again! And when I've finished I will take the little bits and I will jump on them! And I will carry on jumping on them until I get blisters or I can think of something even more unpleasant to do!"
No, doesn't really sound like Kamala's style. *grin*
And of course there's the M Pox in Africa. A report I heard - from Reuters? - said that one reason for the rapid evolution, for instance to a sexually transmitted virus, is that the small pox vaccination program ended some fifty years ago, so younger people have, so to speak, no related immunity.
And there's polio in Gaza. The two sides have agreed a three stage program whereby they will have cease fires from - oh, I don't remember - something like 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for people to take their children to get vaccinated. That sounds like a really swell, workable idea. :P
No. You are allowed to have the flu shot concurrent with it. In that case, they will give each shot in a different arm. I will never ever have two together...especially the first time it's out. If in the same arm, you don't know which is causing the reaction. If in the opposite arm, both sides will be sore making it hard to sllep.
I just checked to be sure, and the answer is No. It's being suggested that you might want to get the Covid and flu shots at the same time, but they are separate vaccines.
The worst, most painful, reaction I ever had was to the typhoid vaccine. If it had been a two-shot series (as it is today) I MIGHT have finished it, but it was a THREE shot series in those days. It was among the free vaccines available at the student health center. A couple of weeks after I decided not to take the second shot, members of a Stanford sports team came down with typhoid during a trip to Mexico. ----Alan

Susan...was your bad reaction to the vaccine or a booster? The original vaccine put me down for the count for 36 hours each time. Moderna was much harder to bear than Pfizer, too, for some reason. The booster was no big deal for me, just a sore arm. With this new vaccine, I'm just getting a little bit sore arm and I'm a little bit tired. Took a nap. All good.
But a rough reaction like yours deserves attention. You may just need to mask up and stay out of crowds like we did in the early days.

I was surprised that CNN didn't trot out a better "interviewer." But I long ago came to the conclusion that CNN isn't a very good news channel. Ah, for Walter Cronkite. -----Alan

I just got the new Covid vaccine. 👍
ReplyDeleteSo far, so good. Stay tuned.
I think I heard that it is combined with flu this time around. Is that correct?

I'm afraid to get the shot this time. Last time it robbed me of my mobility for 24 hours. Can't like that. -Susan

From the snippets I saw, it looked like the VP came off as statesmanlike while the interviewer came off as foolish.
