  1. A Big Difference from 2020
[Click] Thomas Edsall: “One of the most significant developments in the run-up to the 2024 presidential election has emerged largely under the radar. From 2016 to 2022, the number of white people without college degrees — the core of Donald Trump’s support — has fallen by 2.1 million.”

“Over the same period, the number of white people who have graduated from college — an increasingly Democratic constituency — has grown by 13.3 million.”

    1. The original article, in the NYT, reads an awful lot of tea leaves.

  7. This doesn’t compare to the QAnon motorcyclist, but is certainly notable in its own right. Somehow I don’t think it is an illustration of Mr. Bragg’s alleged selective prosecution of Republicans:
Former NYPD colleague of Mayor Eric Adams at center of alleged straw donor scheme [Click] ““We allege a deliberate scheme to game the system in a blatant attempt to gain power,” Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg said in a statement.”

  8. Lord’s Prayer opening may be ‘problematic’, says archbishop [Click] “Archbishop of York tells General Synod that ‘Our Father’ has patriarchal connotations.” Not to worry—I spoke with God about it just this morning, and She was cool with it.

    1. Oh, there are other versions that are more inclusive. One needs to consider the meaning and intention of the original in the time in which it was created. It's easy enough to take that meaning and intention and speak it the way it would be written for today. That's how it's supposed to be anyway, if one considers scripture to be a living document, not a dead poets thing.

At the same time, there is some value to not completely tossing out the original. Many people have heard it before, and it can be comforting to offer it during a time of stress. I once held the hand of a dying elderly friend whose daughter had just told me that she was no longer cognitively present. But when I prayed that prayer aloud beside her, she joined in...!

    2. Oh, yes-- but I thought I could be allowed a bit of humor. English has evolved even in our time.

  9. I got a little over an hour of sleep last night. Felt a slight feeling of being out of breath ...like I just wasn't getting enough oxygen. No other symptoms at all. Finger Pulse OCD reads 98, so I *am* getting sufficient oxygen. It's so weird. The humidity is 91%, but we have heat pumps and an air cleaner. I called my PCP's office and they gave me an appt for late afternoon, with one of her associates, as she's not in on Fridays. But I was able to sleep two hours in the early afternoon and woke breathing just fine! So I cancelled the appointment. They made me promise that if I got chest pain or jaw tightness I would call emergency services. But there has been nothing like that at all.

Then, this evening, the feeling of shortness of breath has returned. Of course it has...because now it's the weekend and the office is closed until Monday. Ha. If this persists, I suppose I will have to get some tests. Bleah.

    Never get old!

    1. I strongly disagree with that last comment. But this is one of those frustrating off-and-on things that are concerning without being clearly problematic.

    2. 🙂 It's good to know someone doesn't mind...!

If this stays in the mode of not being problematic, that would be preferable to the alternative. But, yeah, it sure is frustrating.
