My copy of "The Storm Before The Calm: America's discord, the crisis of the 2020's, and the triumph beyond," by George Friedman arrived from alibris.com two days ago. I have just glanced through it so far, but it looks quite promising as historical analysis and prognostication. I can use a "things are going to be all right" read about now.
Once more: the U.S. Constitution is addressed to agents of government and concerned with just two things: protecting property and regulating commerce. While it recognizes that natural persons exist, it does not secure or protect natural or personal rights. The prohibiions against interfering with established religion (as disinct from "native" beliefs?), the press, weaponry and speech are entirely consistent with the desire to maintain the slave trade and the designaion of women and children as the property of men. Current rsrictions on the removal of sperm elaborated as fetal tissue, is simply protecting the property rights of men. For that matter, keep in mind that juveniles under age 18 are owned by their parents (chattel). hannah
Having never been enmeshed in U.S. media, it only occurred to me recently that the press has long been in an unholy alliance with poliicians (the ruling elite) and the kerfuffle over FOX seemed peculiar. We all know, for example, that the New York Times carried water for GWB and the whole iraq catastrophe was barely covered because the press sold its independence for a front seat. Moreover, having been enmeshed in a web of lies, the mainstream press is no longer capable of reporting the truth. Their excuse now is that their mission (a religious or commercial term) is to explain and interpret what is going on to the stupid hoi poloi--you know, the people who are supposed to govern but are too stupid to know how.
Some Dems are calling for expanding the Supreme Court. It won't fly unless November's vote kicks out enough Senators. So that's the recourse: GET OUT THE VOTE!!!
