You cannot explain a time-line to people who have no sense of time as a linear progression of events. These people exist in an ineffible present where all experience is simultaneous. Otherwise, their behavior is instinctive--responding to insult or favor on the spot. Why do they sound just like everyone else? Because they repeat what they hear. The cause? Congnitive deficits resulting from perinatal insults. We know that prenatal and maternal health care are shoddy. We should expect some negative results. But who remembers what happened during the transit down the birth canal?
Mothers remember...and can relate those birthing stories. I have five unique stories to tell of 5 rather different journeys down the birth canal. Interestingly, the one child whose journey was precipitous also got stuck at the shoulders, at home, with no doctor or midwife in sight. Fortunately, Wil remembered reading about that very situation and knew what to do. (Change to hands and knees position to change the gravity.) The baby was born without the customary forceps and possible brain damage. He is the one who scored exceptionally high on his SATs and now has a PhD.
