    1. That generation of English princes has such a sense of entitlement. I think Anne would have been the better choice for heir, or anything else.

listener--am I correct to recall that you have a wood stove for backup?

    1. Bring it on!!

We have a propane stove in our livingroom that most often can heat the house. In sub zeroes, we might want to sleep down near it. Maybe. But at very least it does a fine job of keeping us in hot tea, coffee and soup!

  5. WHOO HOO!!! Just learned that our town Selectboard has adopted a mask mandate through February 19th!

This really helps! Now we can shop local again.

    1. Vermont bows to your percentage! Nicely honed, WVA! What's your highest peak?

    2. Wait, I found it. It's Spruce Mountain at 4,863 ft. Nice!

Vermont's highest peak is Mount Mansfield at 4,395 ft. These old mountains, older than the Rockies, are sweetly rounded off. Very Celtic effect.

    3. I knew they were pretty worn down, but didn't realize how much.

  7. Just sent this letter to our town selectboard

To all the good folks on the Jericho Selectboard,

First of all, thank you so much for adopting the face covering rule. My husband and I had had to stop shopping locally because some employees were no longer wearing masks. He has heart disease and I have a low-normal immune system and we have several grandchildren too young to be vaccinated. So, we are taking every precaution. I wish I had been able to attend the Selectboard meeting on the 6th to encourage you along, but you did great.

I also wish I had known the outcome of the meeting ahead of my conversation with Ben, the manager at Jericho Market, on Saturday. He told me that they were simply following the Town’s decision, and would reinstate employees wearing masks if the Town enacted a mask mandate. Apparently, at that point, he hadn’t heard about the new rule either.

Fast forward to tonight. I called ahead to Jericho Market before going, to ask if they were, in fact, all now wearing masks, because of the new Town rule. The young person who answered the phone assured me that they were. Imagine my frustration upon getting to the register and finding that the person checking us out was not masked! I inquired about this at the Service Desk and the gentleman there defended the lack of masking by saying that Ben has been in close touch with the Town about this. I let them know that I would not be back until they adhere to the Town rule.

Has word of the new rule been passed to local businesses? When can we anticipate being able to shop locally again? I am so disheartened by their lack of concern for the health and well being of the vulnerable, that I may not be able to bring myself to shop at Jericho Market anymore. If only I hadn’t been told false information when I called! This makes me very sad, as the store started out so well.

Thank you again for the mask rule. I hope word gets out soon.
Keep up the good work. We need you. ❄️

    1. I can understand workers not challenging unmasked customers because of the possibility of aggressive responses; but not masking themselves? And in a small town at that.

    2. Exactly! And the store, while adequate in size, is still rather small. Two of the small "two-decker" shopping carts can pass each other in an aisle, but without much room to spare.

  9. UPS misdelivered a package tonight, so no new clothes for me. I checked with the supplier and it was to be delivered to ME and not our local USPS, as sometimes happens. Phooey. At least the supplier is sending everything a second time and if both get here I just send one set back (no cost to me). So I'd have to wait another week, but I'll get it eventually. One does have to wonder where my package is! None of the local neighbours has it. It's a mystery. 🤷🏻‍♀️
