    1. We did not go to NH today to visit Youngest and Fam after all. DIL3's 1.5 yo nephew has tested positive for Covid. Youngest and Fam have not been with them for 2 weeks, but DIL3's brother was with them Friday & Saturday and stopped at their house briefly yesterday.
Not likely to have transferred it in a day, but none of us wants to take chances.

THEN! I learned that Goddaughter in Virginia is very sick and they think it's likely Covid. Only...there are NO tests of any kind available to find out for sure (not PCR and not at-home variety). So, I express mailed an at-home test to her today, which will arrive by 6:00pm tomorrow. Despite her mother's pleading (Mom is my best friend of all time), Goddaughter was too hesitant to get the vaccines. Oy! Oy!! Oy!!! I blame the conservative culture in Virginia. But sheesh! I so hope she's okay. She and her husband have 3 school age children.

    2. Just to clarify...today's photo is from some heavy wet snow we had several weeks ago. We do have snow on the ground, and we got a coating of ice then a dusting of snow this past weekend, but the roads are already cleared and dry. New England knows how to deal quickly with snow.

    3. The coincidence of the photo and your planned trip did not look good. Glad to hear that at least is not a problem.

    4. I've subsequently learned that Goddaughter's DH did get the vaccines...so at least there will be one functional adult in the household. (None of the children is vaccinated, even though they are all eligible!)

  2. Fresno, Valley experience large surges in deaths in pandemic compared to previous years [Click] Deaths attributed to Covid-19 cover different time periods, so it is hard to compare "Covid-19 deaths" with excess deaths. I figure that the two should really be about the same.

    1. And I figure that the deaths attributed to Covid-19 are likely to be underestimates--better to go with excess deaths.

  3. Today Santa delivered the second book I requested; it is bigger than I had anticipated--- 1643 pages, smallish type. The one that came earlier is smaller: 692 pp, with somewhat larger type. Looks like I have my work cut out for me.
