    From the article:

President Biden recently held an undisclosed East Room session with historians that included discussion of how big is too big — and how fast is too fast — to jam through once-in-a-lifetime historic changes to America.

Why it matters ... The historians’ views were very much in sync with his own: It is time to go even bigger and faster than anyone expected. If that means chucking the filibuster and bipartisanship, so be it.

Four things are pushing Biden to jam through what could amount to a $5 trillion-plus overhaul of America, and vast changes to voting, immigration and inequality.

He has full party control of Congress, and a short window to go big.
He has party activists egging him on.
He has strong gathering economic winds at his back.
    And he’s popular in polls.

    1. This is, hands down, the very best news I have heard since...well, at least since my littlest granddaughter was born healthy...and politically the best news in five years and more. Best news since Reagan!

    2. "Biden's list includes: rural broadband expansion, which would be transformative for those communities ..." That has been a big item for Joe Manchin, who has been pushing a system similar to FDR's Rural Electrification program, which was based on local cooperatives.

Biden Ready to Ditch Filibuster to Go Big [Click] Good Lord—he had a meeting with historians?! I remain of the opinion that changing the cloture rule to require 40 votes to continue would be a reasonable compromise that it would throw a bone to those who wish to reinstate the previous question motion or otherwise eliminate the filibuster.

    2. Nor a Jewish Bible. Even restricting it to Protestant Bibles, they are likely to have considerable disputes. And just how does all of that avoid favoring one religion over others? There is no way. The whole thing should self-destruct.

    3. Tennessee? Oh, no doubt it will be the King James Bible. I have actually heard fundies refer to it as the Saint James Bible. My bet is on KJV, or if they are feeling contemporary, then the NKJV.

    3. It is my understanding that customarily there is either a sales tax or a VAT, but not both. Either one is regressive. A stock transaction tax and/or improved tax collection would go a long way.

  14. WaPo: The gun implicated in Boulder uses the same ammunition as an AR-15. It’s legally a pistol. [Click] The Ruger AR-556 is essentially a cut-down AR-15 with a slightly lower muzzle velocity.

    1. The damage that those small, high-velocity bullets can do is far greater than a conventional bullet. I suppose that means that the best way to control the weapons is to outlaw civilian possession of the ammunition. Existing supplies will be used up in time. My memory may not be quantitatively accurate, but I recall hearing a long time ago that there was about a sixty-year supply of guns in the country but only several years' supply of ammunition.
