    1. I thought I mentioned it on yesterday's thread, but don't see it this morning. Two cases reported in a small city about 15 miles from here. Passengers from the Diamond Princess, cleared to go home, and developed symptoms after.

    2. Bummer. I have wondered about that scenario. I wish they'd find places for all the folks and get them off the dang boat(s), so they wouldn't be all in one place infecting each other. By now, couldn't there be a reasonable plan?

    3. In a word, yes. There could be. There is not, at least at the federal level.

    4. This comes via Phil*in*Iowa:

"I still think a mobilization of construction building 100,000 quick tiny homes as isolation for Covid-19 is in order. The next use could be housing the homeless, so not a dime would be wasted."

I sent it to my Congressman!

    5. That would be too logical. Also hard to get done while running around in circles.

  2. I just finished watching Bernie's town hall in Flint. I am going to regret staying up so late, but I am very glad I did. Bernie was great, the panelists were all great, but Cornell West was STUPENDOUSLY GREAT. In traditional show business the best performance is given the next to the last place on the bill, and that was not just the place Dr. West was given, but the place he deserved. I'm going to send Bernie a little more love and hit the sack. If you haven't seen the town hall, go back to the previous thread and click on the link.

    1. I wholeheartedly concur! I watched most of it live. I hope Bernie rocks Michigan!!

    2. Thanks for the link, Alan. Stupendous is the word. Cornell West blew me away. Talk about an old fashioned, roof-raising orator! Nina Turner was nothing to sneeze at, but she doesn't have his gift. Sen. Regal was also impressive. I found the other panel members interesting as well. And the energy and the love. You could tell each and every speaker deeply admired and respected Bernie. I have not, of course, watched any Biden rallies; but I cannot believe he generates that kind of dedication, almost I was going to say devotion.

I almost shut it off after Bernie's speech, Figuring the rest would be an anticlimax. Boy, was I wrong about that! But, you know, it never ceases to confound me that anyone could fail to admire and love Bernie.

    1. Quite so. But the reporters and editors today often seem to have a limited command of the English language. For a current example, they often evidently do not understand the meaning of "virulent." "Volatile" is another. I also suspect that the so-called editors are spending more time at four-martini lunches than reading and improving the reporters' draft compositions.

Jesse Jackson to endorse Bernie Sanders at Michigan rally [Click] Bernie supported Jackson in 1988.

Kamala Harris endorses Biden; no surprise there— they are both clintonistas, or New Democrats if you prefer.

“Well, that wasn’t her thoughts when I came here to help her get elected, as a matter of fact.” — Bernie Sanders, quoted by the New York Times, when asked about Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s endorsement of Joe Biden’s.

Politico: “The 2020 Democratic primary is back where it was in 2016. Joe Biden is Hillary Clinton, and Bernie Sanders is playing himself. The dramatic differences between the early stages of the two primaries have now faded, and as this year’s contest moves past Super Tuesday, it is taking on a familiar feel.”

  7. About an hour ago I made a run over to Costco. Out of curiosity I looked for toilet paper and paper towels--both were sold out. People were carting out cases and cases of bottled water, which strikes me as insane. After all, almost all of those people surely have city water, which is safer than bottled water. Panic buying, surely.

    1. How on Earth is city water safer than bottled water? Not here it isn't. Our city water tastes very odd at times and gives both myself and my husband sore throats. When our town was deciding whether to stay on the limited town springs or to go with water piped from Burlington, someone mentioned that the water they pipe in tastes terrible. The person representing the water district immediately responded, "Oh, I wouldn't drink it. But if you want to be able to wash your cars, you'll need to do this." It passed. We've been buying our drinking water ever since.

And we have about 6 large containers of water here. Someone mentioned early on that it's possible for a virus to enter the water system. That was enough incentive for me.

    2. The legal standards for bottled water are considerably lower than for city water. And I don't like hormone disruptors in my water, such as leach out of plastic bottles. Remember when they discovered that first bottled water to make it big in the US, imported from France, had toluene in it? (I don't recall the name.) All natural, as it happened. There is one city near here, where I worked for a while, that has tap water with an offensive smell due to sulfur deposits in the ground. I remember the heavy taste and smell of chlorine in the city water of Reno. But our city water is just fine.

    3. We have great water here in Springfield. In the neighboring town of Long Meadow, though, where my massage therapist lives, the water smells so bad she's hesitant even to shower with it. She only uses bottled water for drinking water for herself and for her three pets, two dogs and a cat. I shudder to think how much that must cost her a month.

    4. Interesting that the standards are higher for water that crosses a state line than for in-state.

    1. I figured it was here already. So far there is no evidence of community transmission. But it goes to show that the standards for releasing people from quarantine are inadequate.

  10. A case of Corinavrus has been confirmed in Pittsfield, as far as I know the first in western Mass.

Alan, I passed on your suggestion that Dad call ahead to ask what precautions the rehab center is taking. Though I kind of expected him to poo poo the idear, his actual reaction startled me. He was belligerent. As it happens, I'm FB friends with the physio my evaluation is with; so, I sent her a message. She was understanding and reassuring.
