I didn't get to testify Thursday, and the judge wouldn't allow me to testify Friday, so it's back to LA some time next week. I discovered the only padded seats outside the courtrooms--in the atrium outside the (reasonably priced) cafeteria on the 9th floor, and had a nice little nap there. Then I had a cup of coffee on the balcony outside the cafeteria, and was looking at the tall buildings, contemplating a sketch (too complicated for me, I decided). But I noticed a police helicopter buzzing around, and then I noticed there were a lot of helicopter landing pads in the area--on that one side of the courthouse I counted eleven for sure, and maybe twelve. At the airport I tried sketching airplanes, but that didn't work. Then I made a passable sketch of a young man (with his back turned to me) sitting at a sort of bar looking his tablet computer.
I really must push back on what hannah said about "no free lunch" on the lst thread. It's not about obedience. No way. Nobody tells me I have to serve as the volunteer treasurer of the Disability Pride Parade. But I choose to do so and in return get a "lunch" that allows me to express who I am.
From another perspective, I use this very phrase to justify the very high taxes I pay as an Oak Parker. We -- I -- expect a very high level of municipal services. But those services have to be paid for; contrary to what some people (mostly conservatives) seem to believe, the money doesn't appear out of thin air. That's a choice. We could, and many people do, choose to live someplace with lower taxes and poorer services. But that's not the choice Oak Parkers make.
Thanks. Apparently there is a formal procedure that ends with what amount to a late-July primary. Although whether the new PM will have any better luck than May is unclear.

“The majority of senior aides and advisers on the top-tier Democratic presidential campaigns are women, and roughly a quarter identified as women of color,” according to an analysis by the Wall Street Journal.

Apparently the BBC dumped that link in favor of this one:
