Excuse me, but I noticed this just now: ========================== Trump’s Easter Tweet April 1, 2018 at 10:22 am EDTBy Taegan Goddard
President Trump on Twitter this morning:
Border Patrol Agents are not allowed to properly do their job at the Border because of ridiculous liberal (Democrat) laws like Catch & Release. Getting more dangerous. “Caravans” coming. Republicans must go to Nuclear Option to pass tough laws NOW. NO MORE DACA DEAL! ======================== I dare say that is very different from any of President Obama's Easter statements, but I haven't looked them up. According to the public schedule, Trump is at Mar-a-Lago this weekend, no mention of church attendance. I should think that the Obamas attended church every Easter, although (again) I haven't researched it. The astounding thing is that the Christian nationalists continue to support him.
The word "Christian" gets co-opted and abused. It doesn't make real Christians less Christian. But you can more easily spot the abusers who co-opt the word.
As the Irish saying goes:
May those who love us, love us, and those who don't, may God turn their hearts, and if He doesn't turn their hearts, may He turn their ankles so we'll know them by their limping.
By now, certain individuals and groups in this nation have to crawl.
Well, I suppose we must look forward to the day when Babylon is Fallen.[Click] Perhaps not surprisingly, the original version [Click] seems to have been a Shaker hymn. And going back farther, Sons of Sorrow[Click] has different (but very fine!) words set to the same tune (or pretty close). I continue to think Babylon is Fallen would be a dandy campaign theme song—far better than the mindless pop tunes that are commonly used. Alas, that might violate Calvin Coolidge’s principle of not speaking ill of one’s opponent; yet it might be appropriate in the not far distant future, and I would welcome a candidate with the strength of character to do it.
We are home from Maine after a WONDERFUL weekend with the kids and grands!! We got to help our eldest granddaughter gather sap from 19 maple tree buckets. 2 of them are in their yard. The other 17 are all over the neighbourhood. With their neighbours' permission, our son and granddaughter gather the sap every day. Then they boil it down to maple syrup over their home made backyard fire ring, in a special evaporator they had made special for them in Vermont. Then they distribute the maple syrup, free, to all the neighbours whose trees they tapped. And we got a big jar of it to bring home too!
We went to the Easter Vigil on Saturday evening. I thought the lay reader/chalice bearer seemed familiar, but we've attended there with family from time to time for many years. But! After the service she came up to me, clearly recalled me from an event many years ago, as we were both at the ordination of her best friend (from age 3!), for whom I had served as spiritual guide. That was sweet. But then she tried to convince me to come and lead a retreat for them. I told her the last 2 retreats I tried to lead I lost my voice, and I considered that "a sign." LOL! But she then told the priest that I am "a renowned retreat leader"~!! I just laughed and explained to him that I have lead maybe 2 retreats. I was also uncomfortable about being contacted to lead a retreat at my daughter's church, not knowing how that would seem to her, and how it might reflect on her, for good or ill. I hope I left that in a good place, but I feel unsettled.
There was a big neighbourhood-wide Egg Hunt at our kids' house this morning. That was fun to observe. And their chickens left a fresh Easter egg as well! Ha!
listener--away back when, there was what I suppose one might call a retreat (they used a different word that escapes me) of a religious group which I attended. Four days, as I recall. Toward the end of the second day I was being complimented on how smoothly everything was going; at that point I discovered that at the planning meeting (which I had not attended) the priest had designated me as the leader! Everybody knew their tasks well from previous experience, and I simply didn't get in the way!
Nice weather here today; pretty warm on the south side of our house, but very pleasant in the back yard because of the breeze coming up from the river bottom. I checked on my jury duty status and they said to check again tomorrow evening, so that kind of firms up our planning for tomorrow. No shortage of things to do.
Excuse me, but I noticed this just now:
