    1. I have seen those somewhere, but didn't know what they were called. Maybe easy-thread needles would be a better name. What is the purposes of the two holes?
      TIA

  2. To offset our wrenching daily news, I will periodically post excepts from GRAND MOMENTS, which I am editing as a Christmas gift for our kids. This one about Eldest*Grand (who is now age 11) from when she was 3 years old. Dad is our Wildlife Biologist and Mom is now a Maternity Nurse. Enjoy!

Dad: I think I did okay on my impromptu physics quiz. Results pending.
Mom: Did our daughter administer it?
Dad: How did you guess? :) Getting out of the car she suddenly stopped and said, "What holds the ground together?" I asked what she meant and she said, "The ground! Why doesn't it all fall apart?" I replied that gravity holds it together, which ...then required a detailed definition. On a roll, she then asked what snowflakes are made of. When I told her that they are frozen water she just laughed and said, "No silly! Frozen water is ice!" I told her that snowflakes are made of lots of tiny ice crystals. This engendered the response "So you were wrong! They are made of ice, not water!" I tried to defend my position, but I think I lost points for lack of clarity.

  4. Long day today--big item was a year end party for a local organization at a banquet hall. We brought our giant fuyu persimmons (they run close to a pound each) for gifts and decorations, Miyoko sang, and I was in charge of the audio equipment (a karaoke setup with the only player ever made that takes laser discs, CD's and DVD's). Miyoko was unable to attend last year because of her back problem, but was OK today. Then picked up a turkey for T-Day, and filled the car's gas tank for a trip to Berkeley on the morrow for a pottery sale (our first long trip since Miyoko was laid up with back problems). Back on track! I tried on a new pair of chelsea boots I had ordered, and they were a size too small; so will return (for free), get a refund, and order the next size up. All very easy via the Internet, and because they are an unusual style and brand which simply isn't available around here, there's no need to feel guilty about not buying them locally.
