In the past week or two, I've been seeing pickup trucks sporting a large American flag coloured all black and white. Sometimes it's flying off one corner of the back of the truck while the true red, white and blue Old Glory is flying off the other side. Today I Googled it. It seems to have come into popularity at the time that the Confederate flag was banned most places. American flag experts and traditionalists consider it disrespectful. Some police departments have been flying a black and white American flag with the white stripe, that would be just below the stars, coloured blue.
So, another traitors’ flag? I remember that in grade-school civics classes the Articles of Confederation were hardly more than mentioned in passing as ineffective. And when we got to the Civil War we were told that the Confederate states claimed a right of secession, which others disputed. Much later I happened across and read a copy of the “Articles of Confederation” in the local law library, discovered the real name of the document, read it and saw that the 13th article both rules out secession and makes sense of the beginning of the Constitution’s Preamble [We the People of the United States, in Order to form a MORE PERFECT (emphasis added) Union,…] I further read the documents admitting Vermont to the Union (after the Constitution was ratified), and the new state was required to join all previous agreements among the states—which would include the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union. Hereafter follows Article XIII for your consideration.—Alan
Article XIII of the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union:
Every State shall abide by the determination of the United States in Congress assembled, on all questions which by this confederation are submitted to them. And the Articles of this Confederation shall be inviolably observed by every State, and the Union shall be perpetual; nor shall any alteration at any time hereafter be made in any of them; unless such alteration be agreed to in a Congress of the United States, and be afterwards confirmed by the legislatures of every State.
And Whereas it hath pleased the Great Governor of the World to incline the hearts of the legislatures we respectively represent in Congress, to approve of, and to authorize us to ratify the said Articles of Confederation and perpetual Union. Know Ye that we the undersigned delegates, by virtue of the power and authority to us given for that purpose, do by these presents, in the name and in behalf of our respective constituents, fully and entirely ratify and confirm each and every of the said Articles of Confederation and perpetual Union, and all and singular the matters and things therein contained: And we do further solemnly plight and engage the faith of our respective constituents, that they shall abide by the determinations of the United States in Congress assembled, on all questions, which by the said Confederation are submitted to them. And that the Articles thereof shall be inviolably observed by the States we respectively represent, and that the Union shall be perpetual.
In Witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands in Congress. Done at Philadelphia in the State of Pennsylvania the ninth day of July in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy-Eight, and in the Third Year of the independence of America.
Agreed to by Congress 15 November 1777
In force after ratification by Maryland, 1 March 1781
Turns out one of the Cruisers did finish yesterday's race...and came in first. So the guy who was dishonest actually came in second. While that also means that our heroes came in third, it still feels better this way.

Police should have made that stripe red for all the black people they have murdered without paying any consequence.
