In Memoriam C.S. Lewis and Aldous Huxley
It is often overlooked that three great and influential men died on November Twenty-second, 1963. Pres. Kennedy's tragic and senseless death by assassination traumatized our nation and the world, eclipsing much other news. But on that day the literary world and in particular Fantasy and Science Fiction lost two of its finest and most eloquent members.
Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) and Aldous Huxley (1894-1963) both died on this day fifty-three years ago.

Tardy blogmasters are last. :(
ReplyDeleteCourageous water protectors are first! I spent the evening trying to work out how to post a video shot live as it happened at the bridge at the Standing Rock site. It's on Facebook, which is probably why I couldn't embed it here. Those who can, please go to Kevin Gilbertt's FB page (link below). Watch, like and share his videos. He said some people are trying to pull them down to post on YouTube. Don't know if that has been successful. I do know, from watching the live stream Sunday night and looking at the news coverage Monday that the MSM are spreading misinformation as usual. Don't believe what they tell you. The protesters, the protectors were unarmed and peaceful. The violence was all on the side of the police, who fired water canon, tear gas, mace and rubber bullets into the crowd who, being on a bridge, had nowhere to go. Monday morning, Kevin updated with accounts of injured, including two "elders." A young woman was also severely injured when a purcussion grenade exploded pretty much on top of her. She is now in hospital in Minneapolis.
As Kevin says, your tax dollars are funding these attacks on peaceful, unarmed citizens.
Code Pink Women For Peace, Jill Stein and Bernie Sanders are just a few of those who ran Kevin's stream live. This is important, folks. Those who can, go to Kevin's FB page, linked below, and watch others of his video reports on this situation and its aftermath.

P.S.: Is Bank of America funding the pipeline--or something else nefarious?
Bank of America and Wells Fargo are two banks that are involved with the company (the name of which I have a mental block against) that is trying to build the Dakota Access pipeline. There are a number of other companies involved with that company too, but I simply can't remember. Will do some research on the matter.
DeleteYou didn't kill the blog, Cat! It's simply two days before Thanksgiving. :-D
ReplyDeleteDaughter and Baby*Grandson arrive here tomorrow night and I have been cleaning and prepping. I still need to do some childproofing and make a number of delectable pies.
Our family is not only all bringing food for the meal, we are all bringing supplies to send to the Dakota Water Protectors. My contribution is first aid supplies for large wounds. Sigh. We are giving this in honour of the woman who was injured by the grenade and who has subsequently had to have her arm amputated. :-(
BTW, Thanksgiving is Daughter's 40th birthday. Well, literally it's Friday, but she was born on Thanksgiving. :-)
DeleteMy mother was born on November 27th, back when that was Thanksgiving (before they made it fall on a Thursday).

Listener, do you have an address? I also want to send something; thinking of a box of chapstick, Badger balm, toothpaste, that sort of thing but have no idear where to have the stuff sent.

I was still up in the wee hours, and one becomes a touch paranoid at that time. I'm glad everybody woke up and came back! 8)
