Obama endorses Teachout for Congress
| ||
WASHINGTON – The race for New York’s 19th Congressional District seat has caught the eye of President Obama. He has endorsed Zephyr Teachout for the post. Both are Democrats and while it is not unusual for politicians of the same party to endorse one another, a presidential endorsement is more unusual. The President said Teachout “will be the kind of reform-minded leader we need to build on all of the programs we’ve made over the last eight years to create a stronger, fairer country for our children.” He called Teachout “an independent fighter for working families, and will help create an economy that works for everyone in this district, not just the wealthy and well-connected.” Teachout will face former state Assemblyman John Faso in next month’s general election. She has been labeling Faso throughout the campaign as being connected to the so-called “wealth and well-connected.” Faso has been campaigning on his past government experience and the claims that Teachout is essentially a carpetbagger who moved into the district to run for the open seat. |

Here are the latest state polls from the presidential race:

North Carolina: Clinton 47%, Trump 46%, Johnson 4% (Monmouth)

North Carolina: Clinton 42%, Trump 41%, Johnson 8% (Lucid)
Florida: Clinton 45%, Trump 39%, Johnson 6% (Lucid)
Virginia: Clinton 43%, Trump 38%, Johnson 9% (Lucid)
Georgia: Clinton 44%, Trump 40%, Johnson 8% (Lucid)
Amomynous was me. And I'd only give the Monmouth poll a lot of weight.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, a loyal soldier for Hillary Clinton since he conceded the Democratic nomination, told the Washington Post he “plans to push liberal legislation with like-minded senators with or without Clinton’s support if she is elected— and to aggressively oppose appointments that do not pass muster with the party’s left wing.”
ReplyDelete“Sanders said he and other senators have started plotting legislation that would achieve many of the proposals that fueled his insurgent run for president, including a $15 federal minimum wage, tuition-free public college, ending “mass incarceration” and aggressive steps to fight climate change.”

I'm excited to hear that! Especially the part where he'll champion these issues whether or not Clinton is in favour. I've really been trying hard to accept the situation and honor Bernie's vote request. But I still just cannot do it. I still NEED as well as want to write in Bernie's name. I do, after all, have to sleep at night.

Upon reflection, I think I knew that in 7th grade, but don't think it was in the curriculum--I learned it from educational TV (yes, there was such a thing!). I think I have the chart of English word roots, prefixes and suffixes I requested by mail filed away in a drawer in a shoebox of mementos.

The last two paragraphs and the information about the author are hopeful...especially if Bernie hold the gavel of the Senate Budget Committee...

Very interesting. I hadn't put things explicitly in the anti-trust context and also had forgotten that it was under Reagan that branch banking first became legal outside California. And yet, what I'm hearing from Bernie and Warren doesn't seem to specifically address things like the AT&T-Time-Warner merger, which as much as anything else is what this article is about. The whole thing seems complicated beyond belief.
DeleteYou want a new party? How about a Pirate Party? Icelandic Pirate Party
ReplyDeleteHadn't considered it, Bill; but on your recommendation, I shall investigate it. Probably more mainstream than the Rhinoceros Party!
Delete--Alan
Yes, definitely more mainstream than the Rhinoceros Party.
Delete“Outsiders may regard the idea of a government run by Pirates as a joke. But ‘the voters think a joke is better than what we have now,’ said Benedikt Jóhannesson, leader of another insurgent party that is even younger than the Pirates and has also earned substantial support.”
