  1. Howard's right up there, and Bernie too!

And we are getting some more rain today. (We went out at mid-day and did a bit of yard work.)

  3. "Hillary Clinton has released an aggressive new attack ad, fanning fears about the main Republican presidential candidates to make the point that she, and no other Democrat, “can stop them,” the New York Times reports."

Is HRC whistling past the graveyard? I gather that the polls (granted it is early days) differ with her claim.

    1. From politico.com:

Bernie Sanders has soared to a 13-point lead over Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire in a Fox News survey out Friday, nearly a month to the day that primary voters will make their decision at the polls on Feb. 9.
Sanders, who in November held a slim 1-point advantage over Clinton in the same poll (45 percent to 44 percent), this time took 50 percent of the vote to 37 percent for Clinton. Former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley earned 3 percent. Before Friday's poll, the latest CBS News/YouGov survey polling primary voters showed Sanders with a 14-point advantage over Clinton (56 percent to 42 percent) in mid-December.
      Story Continued Below

The independent Vermont senator drew well with the under-45 crowd, outpolling the former secretary of state 55 percent to 31 percent in that demographic. Among men, Sanders leads by 23 points — 53 percent to 30 percent. He also leads among women, albeit by a smaller margin — 48 percent to 41 percent.

Among those earning $50,000 or less, Sanders outdrew Clinton 59 percent to 33 percent.
The poll, which was conducted via landline and cellphones Jan. 4-7, included 386 Democratic primary voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 points.

    3. Things are looking seriously less than certain for HRC in Nevada, and I gather no one can really guess what will happen in Iowa--turnout will be a big factor (not only how many show up, but WHO shows up). I received (suppose you all did too) an e-mail from Team Bernie about a speech by Bernie to his supporters coming up this week, but it will be at a time when few will be able to watch, except on the east coast--6PM ET, 3PM Pacific Time on a work day.

    5. Anyone who didn't totally dismiss Bernie from the beginning expected him to carry New Hampshire. Iowa is the big deal. If he carries that -- Alan is right that it depends on the respective campaigns' ability to get their supporters to the caucuses -- and does well in Nevada, Super Tuesday voters will really have to think about their choice.

  4. Most fun year of my life, I didn't take my Christmas tree down till after Memorial Day. I even flirted with keeping it up year round. Twas my first artificial tree, and utterly lovely.

    1. A vision of a Thanksgiving Tree decorated with pumpkin, Pilgrim, turkey and other ornaments comes to mind--then a Fourth of July Tree. I suppose a person could get a real reputation that way...
