Will we have a Howard of 2016? No, but perhaps an analogy.
ReplyDeleteI have pulled out my father's Parker 51 fountain pen and pencil set, dateable to 1949-50; currently soaking the fountain pen in cold water to dissolve the dried ink. That was the biggest-selling fountain pen of all time, and spare parts are easy to come by. Restoration and repair services are very modestly priced. But maybe it won't need anything more than soaking in water; we will see. The nib looks awfully fine, but since it is mostly covered I can't be sure. In any event, inspection with a magnifying glass does not reveal any damage. The mechanical pencil (a clicker) is a bit stiff from oxidation of the aluminum moving parts, but not frozen.
Off to Sandy Eggo on Thursday for the Public Defender (as things stand at the moment). Then I am going to take Friday off from work for medical routine maintenance (oncologist physical and new spectacles), then work on the kitchen sink and some other stuff in the afternoon.
You Can't Understand American Politics Without Reading This Study
Editorial from talkingpointsmemo.com [Click] This really does make sense. Is the current state of US politics (at least GOP politics) an end-stage echo of the Peculiar Institution? How else to explain the unique death rate results for the US? The analogies with post-USSR Russia are downright spooky.
