  1. This would be an awesome time for me to hear from some Chicago area Deaniacs, BTW.

    1. Renee ~~ I'm here. Wish I'd known you were coming, although it looks like there wouldn't have been time for us to get together in any case.

Would also be nice if we could get together during my annual visit to Columbus, but looks like that's not going to happen either.

  2. Hi, Renee--Take care, hear?

Poking around on the Internet last night, I discovered where my ancestors from Germany first settled in New York (after cutting a road for more than three hundred miles from Philadelphia), before they realized the landowners were planning to use them as serfs rather than sell them land and they decamped for the vicinity of Toronto. The village was named Williamsburg(h), and was about three miles south of Geneseo, New York. We will probably be passing nearby, but there is nothing remaining from that time, and only a historical plaque giving the name of the village and a cemetery created by later settlers (whose village has also diappeared). Interesting, though.

  3. Geez--I'm TRYING to take care. It's all the care from OTHER people that is driving me up a tree. I rented a car, and my mom CANCELLED it. I talked her into renting me a hotel room, which Perkins is TOTALLY grooving on. Waiting for a break in the onslaught of help, care, and treating me like I'm 98 rather than 48. Found a different rental place within .3 miles of the hotel. Walking distance, if I can time it right.

    1. Don't know where you hotel is, but Chicago has a good public transit system that could (guessing here) get you close to the car rental place. Check out goroo.com/goroo

Count on me to know Chicago public transit, although Penny uses it even more.

    2. Well, I was just a VERY BAD GIRL and rented a car from a place .3 miles from the hotel I'm currently staying at, which is on Mannheim in Schiller Park.

  4. Blame my bad eyes, which didn't see the decimal point. Why I always write 0.3 -- required in my work, of course.
