Also first today are Emily & Erik, getting married in NYC. I watched Emily grow up, as her family home schooled when we did, and her Mom is one of my dearest friends. In fact, the mother of the bride's car is here in my driveway and I'll be picking her up at the airport on Monday! :-D
Internets crapped out early last night (my phone line) so just headed up early. Absolutely forgot pain meds, lol! Wasn't too bad till this a.m., and puppy up early, too. Line sorta okay just now, but don't expect it to last very long.
puddle--Sounds very reasonable to me also. I have figured for some time that the "Republican" Party might go the way of the Whigs, but it is interesting that others are beginning to explicitly and implicitly moot the point in the public forum.
listener--I am no fan of David Brooks, but I thought his column bespoke a level of integrity and intellectual honesty sufficient to be worthy of respect. Can't say as I am aware of Mark Shields.
This has been a record warm September (albeit not by much). Only one day out of the month with a high temperature below 90 degrees; and this coming first week of October is predicted to be up around a hundred degrees, give or take a bit.

P.S.: The trunk lid on our new Camry hybrid is very short--it is important to OPEN IT ALL THE WAY to avoid demonstrating yet again that two newtonian physical objects (i.e. a trunk lid and a forehead) cannot occupy the same space at the same time.
Shields and Brooks are the Friday analysis team on The PBS News Hour. Though I usually agree with Mark, I actually like David better as far as personality goes.
That's way too hot, Alan! Yikes! How are the trees reacting?
Yikes about the Camry trunk lid!! Ouchy!! Last year, two weeks before their wedding, the bride closed the hatch of their car just as the groom remembered something he meant to grab. He got whammed on the upper bridge of his nose and they made a trip to the ER. A few stitches, but it wasn't too much noticable by the wedding.
Yes, as Cat mentioned, Mark Shields is the other (liberal) voice on PBS's News Hour.
I was reading yesterday (on huffingtonpost, maybe) that Romney is rehearsing "zingers" to deploy against Obama in the "debates." Why do I think this just might backfire? I imagine the Obama ad team will be be ready to turn out another ad contrasting what Romney says in the debate with what he has said before, within an hour or two of any given debate...
Thanks, Alan. It does matter. I've never liked the idea of GMOs, even ten years ago, when pretty much most peeps were still defending them. *Hated* eating stuff labeled as a pesticide, lol!
Insight from this morning's (and through the night, it seems) fasting and prayer time. A total disbelief that R&R are going to be able to sell the killing of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. That the voters *will* hear, and *will* respond.
Gotta say: I think poor Romney's memorized list of "zingers" is going to do him more harm than good. I know he *thinks* he's the second coming of Reagan. He's not. Robotatron. . . .
Howard Dean is always First!

Renee and Alan...I left notes for you on the bottom of the last thread.

I will do my part, puddle. Unlike the presidential race, my vote will count on that one.
