Blueberry Turning

And, just for old time's sake: Happy Birthday Howard!

  1. Doctors Dean are numbers one!

I finished reading Gaston Laroux's "The Mystery of the Yellow Room" (1907) today. The central twist of the story is unique in my recollection; certainly nothing like it in Sherlock Holmes. Some of the execution is not to modern tastes, but that's no big thing.

  2. Got up half hour early 'cause it was supposed to be snowy and bitter cold. Neither, so have a little extra time before taking off for the doctor's appt. Which is *good* since I'm a very slow waker.

  3. It *really* sucks that Brady can barely walk these days.

LOTS of things suck at the moment, to be honest, but at the moment, that's the biggie.

  4. I always remind myself of what Woody Allen said: "Getting old isn't so bad when you consider the alternative." Sort of seems like that might apply to dogs as well as humans.

  5. With you on that, Renee. I'm going through the same with Stevie. And the prednisone works less well every day. Got a hard decision coming up sooner than I want.

  6. Got through the appt. Decision, they're really past their areas of expertise, and are setting up an apt with the dudes at UVA. It'll take two weeks. (to *set up* the appt.) Meanwhile, the only meds they have to offer are the class I'm allergic to. She IS going to talk to Dr. Reilly and see if just possibly they can find something less well studied. . . . I'm not holding out much hope. So blended diet it is!

Stopped at Costco and got me a turkey (kinda getting tired of chicken, lol!), and tomatoes, avocados and English cucumbers, lotsa butter and a wonderful triple creme brie (better than ice cream) and some Jarlsberg, so I'm good to go for a while. Also stopped at the oriental grocery and got some different flavor ramen noodles, and some pig tails and tongue for the crock pot (and blender). And some lettuce. Think I can skip town for some time to come, lol!

  7. I love brie. But -- alas! -- like most cheese it's high in salt.

Let's hope the new docs move quickly and know what to do. It would be a shame to have that delicious brie and then not be able to get it down.

  8. That should have been: "skip the trip to town". . . . Sometimes ya just don't listen to yourself.

  10. Everything goes down once. Whether it *stays* down is the issue, lol! The brie seems to be one of the things that tends to (Thank Godde).

Tomorrow is 8 hours at the Library (usually 0).
Saturday is 4 hours at the Library (as usual), followed by Granddaughter #2 duty.
Sunday is a much anticipated Day Off.

  12. =HUGS= to both of you. Trust that you'll know when the time has come, and enjoy the days you have while you have them. A new book came out on September 27th called Going Home: Finding Peace When Pets Die by Jon Katz. The author recommends that when you know the day is upon you, spend as much of it as possible making it a special day for your pet...favourite foods, lots of rubs, etc.. And do you know what? That's exactly what we did with Emma. I got so choked up when I read that.

  13. I understood it the first time...simply read it as "skip going to town." :-) Though to be honest, if you skipped town we'd all understand. (If you do, come to Vermont! :-) )

  14. Gee, we could have told your doctor's office that it was beyond them. I like hearing that they're finally sending you to the big leagues.

It takes two weeks to set up the appointment...! Wow. Here's hoping the new doc actually hears what's going on and finds room for you immediately at that point! My experience has been that once you find a good specialist things go remarkably well.

Glad to hear you can settle in for a long Winter's nap if you like. Might as well enjoy your Thanksgiving in all its uniqueness. Friends of ours had planned to go shopping the day before Thanksgiving and have a big meal with loved ones. When their own plane home was delayed, they arrived too late to shop, so figured they'd go out to eat. They had no idea that you had to have a reservation, and pretty much everything else (including grocery stores) was closed. They came home with frozen pizzas they'd found at a gas station shop and some Chinese food. Yet it's one of their most memorable Thanksgivings, they say, while all the rest just gray together. ;-)

  16. Thanks!! I'm heading to bed shortly after Mah*Sweetie gets home.
On Thursday I worked Noon to 8pm. Today I'm working 10am to 6pm.
    Saturday it's the usual 10am to 2pm.
What makes it hard is that Sweetie doesn't get home until nearly 1:00am.
