Huby and I got home from a local meeting to hear candidate Doug Racine speak, washed the car in the half light and put on a Doug Racine for Governor bumper sticker. We are volunteering for the campaign too. It's pretty cool when the candidate knows you before you say your name, and thanks you for your previous support. Doug just chaired the Senate Health and Welfare Committee (the session ended last week) and has excellent idears about taking Vermont forward. I sure hope the Progressives get behind him too.
When my mom died, and we were sitting around telling stories, my brother Bruce told this one. He was with a delegation of state workers meeting the Governor's plane (Gov. Rampton. I believe). As the Governor deplaned, he saw my brother and said: "Hi, Bruce, how's your Mom? Tell her Hi! for me." Bruce was dumbfounded, and decided that maybe mama *did* know everyone in the state (a family joke).
Well, I have an excuse for being largely absent today. A bit of work came in yesterday. No more than a day's worth, if that, but Mohan wanted it done today so we could start on something else tomorrow. Yet today was also the day set aside for casting my votes for the Guests of Honor for our 2012 World Science Fiction Convention. Both are done now, but there's a patent Mohan wants me to read. Just because I have some idea of how the patent system works he seems to think I know more than I do.
I have been absent of late too; worked the weekend at the hospital, and it was a doozy. The ER was busy and pretty much stayed that way--I was up all night Friday, and almost all Saturday night. Managed to work in a nice nap during a lull mid-morning.
Just chatted with Naomi; not only were all her submissions for the school's Spring Show accepted, she was chosen (she never even applied) as one of approximately the 20 best seniors for a sort of day-long show for employers. Seems she will have a booth. It's cool with her employer that she takes a day off from work for it--he will be there himself, and he (or a partner?) is a graduate of the same school. The project she will be working on, a game called "Farm Story," was recently put up on the Apple Apps store, and was the No. 1 download within a couple of days. It seems the basic version of the game is free, but the company makes money selling add-ons and some other stuff. It has some sort of social networking features. Naomi tells me that very few of the students at the school are doing the sort of things she has been working on--vectorized Flash illustration/animation, IF [that's a BIG "if"] this dinosaur understands correctly. Well, now to go back and get caught up with HEP! And to bed at a pretty early hour. TTFN
