Howard is first. At least on Terra. I can't speak for Nova Brittania.
Cat~~I don't really know what role the native Nova Brittanians play in your story. I've only seen them in that one brief excerpt, where the guy appeared to not only look but act in an extremely human way. I experience a cognative dissonance trying to reconcile that with the idea that at a basic level they're nothing like us at all.
But that's me, the biochemist/cell biologist. I'm not sure how much that would affect the average SF reader.
And I do hope that our discussions of SF aren't driving others away. I find them very interesting.
I'm with you. I love lilacs! We gathered bushels of them for our son's wedding four years ago (end of May) and the church smelled wooonnnnnderrrfulll!
puddle, I'll take the purple lilacs with pink roses and the white lilacs with red roses. Mmmmmm.
:~)
I'm mending more each day. Had to work today, and it was WILD at the salt mine, so I came home, put on my jammies first thing, then had dinner (which my Main Squeeze had all ready), and took my antibiotic. Soon I'm going to crash for another long night's rest.
I woke up on Thursday at NOON! Ha!
Sooo glad Ally had just one more painful treatment. Can't wait to hear her reaction to the Zoo this weekend! I don't like the sound of "bone marrow tests" on Monday. :shiver: But...her treatments of all sorts are very...nearly...done...!!!
Bill--what you said about amphibians and their color-revealing cells made me think of the octopus--that can not only change colors and patterns, but even exhibit moving patterns (e.g. stripes), evidently due to emotions. Now wouldn't THAT be something in an anthropomorph! (Cat--fear not, I don't expect you to splice that into NB; it would require a story line of its own.)
Thanks for the link to the Salon article, puddle.
Donna is closing?! I missed that! Wow!
Ally is amazing.
And lilacs are really wonderful; but they need lots of room.
Off to Oakland tomorrow for a union arbitration case. Truck driver terminated unjustly, based on ignorance of "safety officer." Seems I won't be going back to Alaska for the conclusion of the case I testified on, but the same attorney has another one coming up early next year.
UPDATE: Daughter is scheduled to fly Munich to Boston! Don't know how she's getting to Munich (probably rail) but she gave us her flight number so we can track her flight. (She never does that. We are grateful.)
I think you are wise to skip the "command performance" moment at the Salt Mine. I have one of those next Friday evening, but as it's our annual Volunteers Appreciation Dessert Event, I think I'll make a cheesecake and go. Of course, I'm not trying to pack and move...!
Hot Tip: Only pack neatly the stuff you don't plan to open for a long time. Everything else isn't going to be in the boxes long anyway, so don't be too careful about what goes in which box ...except maybe one or two kitchen supplies boxes and one bathroom supplies box. The rest will be opened within a few weeks anyway. Save your energy on the opening end of things. :)
I am sooo happy about it!! She got out through Munich just 4 hours before they closed the airport and all the airports in Switzerland. She says she'd have found another way, and I believe her, but it's much nicer to know she's already back and not trying to sleep in the Hamburg Airport. (I've tried sleeping there before and it's the pits. They do have nice showers though.
>>Did I just say I was moving in less than 2 weeks? <<
Yes, you did. Like Alan I apparently missed the original announcement, although about a week ago I noticed you saying something about packing and closing.
I know you've been wanting this for some time, so I'm happy for you. But I can't help but shudder when I think about what things would be like should I ever have to move!

ReplyDeleteI'm not glad she has to have ANY, but glad that there's only one left.

Daughter was due to fly home today (Friday), but is stuck in Switzerland (work related) due to the volcanic ash from Iceland.
ReplyDeleteBut if anybody can figure out a Plan B route to get home, she'd be the one. By now she must have a black belt in flight scheduling. So we'll see.
What a mess this will make for so many people.
Traveling Mercies to those stranded. ♥

Now I can go get some sleep. :)
Early Ally update at baby. . . .

Ally's 3f8 treatments are history. ♡
ReplyDeleteDaughter's plane is enroute from Europe and out of harm's way. ♥
All's right with the world. :)
Good news!
ReplyDeleteI'm personally surprised Munich was still open. When I first heard of the problem I thought of Rome or maybe Naples as the fallback option.
Traveling mercies to the kiddle, listener!
ReplyDeleteWe've got a red flag fire warning going on here. No fire, but perfect conditions for some.
After several days in the 80s, it's in the low 60s today. Penny tells me there is a frost warning for tonight.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes. April in Chicagoland!
listener, how wonderful to be surrounded by so much springtime beauty. Come to think of it, Evanston looks pretty darn good too.
ReplyDeleteClosings are on the 30th but I am moving out on the 29th. I am too tired to do much this evening, but come tomorrow I will be a packin' fool.
My salt mine will be hosting an open house this Sunday to show off the recent remodeling. I'm not planning to go, but I don't think they'll miss me.
Did I just say I was moving in less than 2 weeks? =-O
Yikes, girl!! Packing/moving mercies! But don't forget to do food with Denise and Thankful this coming week.
ReplyDeleteYeah! None of that ALL work and NO play stuff!
