Geese on the Farm

  1. Are those round things giant puffballs?

Democrats Are Answering the Wrong Questions [Click] “By focusing on bizarre hypotheticals, candidates keep falling into the traps we’ve seen before.” It occurs to me to wonder if Dukakis might, for instance, have responded “More importantly, would you ask such a question if you had the brains of an amoeba? The answer would have to be ’No.’”

Black female voters to Democrats: 'You won't win the White House without us' [Click] I will have to see how some of the guests handled themselves at the She the People Presidential Forum; I expect it is on YouTube.

    1. Those big round things are cement balls. I have no idea who’d want them, but they are for sale at that garden center.

    2. Decorative cement balls was my second guess; the objects seem very uniform for giant puffballs, [Click] but their random placement suggested the latter.
Here are more photos of giant puffballs. [Click]

    3. Goodness! Some of those things are huge!

As to the cement balls: Apart from putting them on top of ornamental gateposts, I can't imagine what one would use them for. To each his own.

An excellent compare and contrast of Bernie and Biden. I am ride or die Bernie, so of course I think he comes off way better than Biden.

    1. So here’s a question. To round out each of these two guys, and make them acceptable, whom should they choose for VP?

    2. Biden/Abrams maybe?

      Biden/Harris?

      Bernie/Abrams?

      Bernie/Warren?

    3. Having read the compare and contrast piece, I thoroughly agree with you, Susan.

    4. Thanks, Susan. A nice overview.

I would vote Sanders/Abrams or Sanders/Warren. In my view, either would be a stellar ticket. Abrams is younger, though, which is an advantage from the standpoint of balance, as is her being from Georgia and her being black. Warren is currently sixty-nine, while Abrams is forty-five. Also, much as I would enjoy voting for an all New England ticket, that probably wouldn't go over too well in the rest of the country...especially since I hear our former gov., Bill Weld, intends to offer a primary challenge to Trump. Weld is at least as unlikely to get the Rep. party nomination as Bernie is to get the Dem. But, in the unlikely eventuality that he does, I'd vote for Weld over Biden or Harris.

    5. I am unfamiliar with Mr. Weld, but understand that he has proven very popular in Massachusetts.

    6. I think Bernie needs someone more centrist than Warren for balance. I don't think we know much about Abrams's position on national issues, which could be a plus for her. From among the presidential candidates I would suggest Harris or maybe Klobucher.

  3. Lots of geese have their nests in/near the walking area at the dog shelter. The babies are adorable, but the adults keep approaching with a "You want a piece of me?!" hiss.

    1. They will do that all through nesting season. Don’t take it personally. Remember what long nights we had when our own children were goslings. 😉

    2. Nah, I don't take it personally. Just wish they hadn't made their nests in an area where over 100 shelter dogs need to be exercised.

      Delete
    3. Yeah, I hear you.

Any chance the geese have been nesting there yearly since before the dog shelter was built? Or have they been displaced from nearby nesting areas?

I am seeing sooooo much encroachment here in Chittenden County in Vermont (Burlington area). Lots of apartment housing going in where fields used to be. Makes me so sad.

    1. Nah, not snow--just some flocculent sunshine, Bill.

    2. While we had the first thunderstorms of the season yesterday afternoon and evening with highs in the mid 50s, today's forecast high is only 50 and the Berkshires are expecting snow sometime over the weekend.

    3. We're supposed to have a dusting overnight here as well. I don't take it seriously. Spring snow melts so quickly there's nothing to shovel. Besides, I still have my snow tires on.

  6. Here’s the whole “She the People Forum 2019” [Click] I didn’t have the heart to watch Bernie yet, so I watched the Elizabeth Warren segment (the last one), and damn! She was good! She was prepared, her speaking skills were excellent, and her body language didn’t contradict her words. At the end, discussing motivation and the lessons she learned from her parents, I heard in somewhat different words what I consider the biggest lesson I learned from my parents. And just like Senator Warren, I was taught by actions and emotions, not by explicit words.

    1. According to a NYT column from five or six weeks ago [Antitrust Returns to American Politics Cory Booker sounds like a possibility.

    2. Having looked up info on Cory Booker again, I don't see him as a trust-busting bulldog.

    1. It makes me heartsick to see all these shootings in places of worship. The world's moral compass has been smashed. We'll have to go deep, possibly underground (again), but honest faith will not be trounced or shot into oblivion.

  9. I wish we could have Bernie/Zephyr, even though it's too Northeast and there's not enough Zephyr name recognition nationwide. Just thinking of my own dream ticket.
