Katrina: 'Fun'

Now tell me the truth, boys: is this kind of fun?

  1. Ok, Renee, you got me. I've not even been reading the DFA blog; just too sad and enfuriating. But I checked in this afternoon looking for a piece of information I thought someone might have posted--and found The Shadow Blog!!! Yay!

Did happen to notice RO's defense of DeLay (so what's new?). A la - a perfectly normal thing for an adult to say to children. Duh - what's the context here? Children torn from their homes, their schools, their neighborhoods. Exposed to weather extremes that would traumatize anyone.
Stuck in the Dome or at the Convention Center, or alongside the highway for days with little food or water. Then bussed for hours, not knowing where they were going.

Now they're in another huge dome, sleeping alongside thousands of strangers, big men with big guns everywhere, their parent or parents so stressed out they're about to break.

No, any adult would not have said that. Only a self-absorbed, self-important man, totally lacking empathy and understanding.

Oh, how nice to be able to rant. Thanks for The Shadow Blog!

  2. The difference between a *fun* camping trip and evacuation to the Superdome is that after a camping trip you have a home to go back to. Lots of thing are fun that you still want to be able to *stop* when you've had enough.

He probably thought he was comforting them - making the *feel* better. But, typical of the GOP leadership, his "making them feel better" didn't actually involve anything to improve their situation.

  4. Hi, ravenwind--good to see you here! Dancing Larry was here the other night and there was a nice little reunion. Things have been a little slow here since the first couple days, but I hope word of mouth will help things pick up a bit.

  5. You're kinder than I am, Demetrius. I don't believe he thought he was making them feel better. I believe he needed to trivialize their experience and the whole of the disaster. To make it less in any way possible.

That's the Rovian plan they're all working under. Downplay, find a "happy" face" anyway possible, trivialize, don't admit to the misery, the death and destruction.

  6. Well, it's sweet, Renee, to have a "smoke free zone" as you put it. I'm made ill by breathing cigarette smoke for less than 5 minutes. My tolerance time for Oler smoke became even shorter. Had to stay out of the bar!

By the way, I enjoy your diaries on DKos. So far I've only read over there. Am about brave enough to officially sign up so I can comment.

  7. Hi, ravenwind! Yes, I'm delighted Renee made this place. Not only that, but that she's doing such a great job on the posting! (Along with Corinne and the others.)

I think, aside from a place to go when the bloviator's in full flood, it's a good place just to be with people who care, who are bright, who are actually doing things.

Please, please keep this place as a place to come to.

  8. Hi Puddle! Always enjoyed your thoughts, when I was still stepping into The Smoky Bar.

You know, I never mind reading, and engaging in discussion with, someone who has a different take on a subject. Even difficult subjects like racism can be discussed from a reasonable, respectful place.

But I have to much to do to try to take my country back to spend time wading through the enfuriating drivel produced by the bloviator. Some people apparently feel differently, but I've never learned one useful thing from anything he's ever written!

  9. Hey, I just scrolled down, and took Renee's suggestion to check out Demetrius' shadow blog version of the Cheers theme.

Very creative, Demetrius! Now I'm humming it--damn!

  10. Hi. I have nothing profound or witty to had to the conversation at the moment, so I'll just wish you a happy Saturday evening.

  11. Hi everyone!

Just dropped in to say goodnight. I've been running around today, and Sunday School starts tomorrow so I hope to be by later tomorrow.

We had some friends over for dinner tonight and the husband works for USAirways here at National Airport. He was talking about all the VIPs he'd seen over the past couple of days and he mentioned he'd seen Howard yesterday, probably heading back to Burlington (via Boston).

Me: Well the next time you see him, tell him I said hi.

A: Ok. Do you want me to give him a kiss, too?

    Me: Yes, please. (LOL)

Ok, off to tuck the kids in. G'night.
