Goodbye Sweet May!
Later Addition:
We have clear skies today, but the sky is completely white outside. That's due to dense smoke aloft from wildfires burning across western Canada. Here's a model graphic depicting current coverage of smoke aloft across the nation. The local National Weather Service office added the trace of Vermont, so you can see what we're dealing with here in NW VT. I am experiencing respiratory irritation. Sigh. I'm so grateful that we have heat pumps, because we were able to put them in Air Conditioning mode and at least freshen the air inside the house.

Pick Me!
Day 4: Are they cute or what?
Three healthy baby Cardinals. I took this last planned photo today, as it was warm and sunny,
there will be rain the next few days, and the day I'm home again is their likely fledge day.
Mama and Papa Cardinal are being wonderfully attentive and hard working.
I admire them greatly. And I leave a grub on the porch for them whenever I find one.

The American Cardinal chick eggs hatched on Saturday!
We noticed that the male was feeding the female, as happens when they have chicks.
So when she was briefly off the nest, I slipped outside to the bush, stuck my hand through the Rhododendron blossoms, aimed my iPhone toward the nest I couldn't see, and got lucky!
Then I got out of there fast.

The Vermont Episcopal Diocese is choosing a new Bishop today
Meet the three finalists
The new bishop will either be black, half Native American, or gay.
All three candidates are women.

Walkabout Videos here:
(They're similar at each site, so I recommend the Burlington set. They used the time well.)

It's Tree Day ~ NOT
We were having 6 dead or ailing trees taken down today. But then we realised that that would be a really bad idea during nesting season. So we have put it off until September. Fortunately our neighbor (who has a few trees in the project too) was willing to accept PhD*Son's expert opinion on the subject. And fortunately the Arborist said it was no problem for him to reschedule. Next week we're having a good size Eastern/Canadian Hemlock planted.
The photo above is unrelated to the project. Just some nice trees of which I snapped a photo!

Stone Walling
We're interested in putting in a stone wall so we can widen our driveway a little.
I like the rounded stones best, but these are nice too.
