Goodbye Sweet May!

Later Addition:

We have clear skies today, but the sky is completely white outside.  That's due to dense smoke aloft from wildfires burning across western Canada. Here's a model graphic depicting current coverage of smoke aloft across the nation. The local National Weather Service office added the trace of Vermont, so you can see what we're dealing with here in NW VT.  I am experiencing respiratory irritation.  Sigh. I'm so grateful that we have heat pumps, because we were able to put them in Air Conditioning mode and at least freshen the air inside the house.

  1. Clear skies today, but overall the wettest May in Chicago history.

Was found a whole entire dinosaur
with a footprint of a sandal in
its stomach. And a sober tooth tyger

with a song in his ear
    The unicorns dead drunk on
    pomegranate wine missed the boat

Did yaweh, wishing to sacrifice a son,
need to create a race of imperfect beings
whose future deeds would need atonement?

All, all things I need must know
before I can take a bowl of stew
    to an elderly neighbor

    which must be settled before
    I comfort a weeping child

except the bread rises in its bowl
    and needs attending to
    Man, am I rapture-ready!

  3. Drove up to the Bay Area with Naomi today; driving north an west we passed over the San Joaquin River, which was as full as I have ever seen it at that place, and just before that we passed over the river bypass, which is normally dry, but also had quite a bit of water in it. During the past couple of weeks the river just below our place has risen by at least three and maybe five feet. There is still snow on the mountains.

Just 34% of Maine voters approve of President Trump, down from 41% last fall.
