We saw the new “live action” version of Aladdin last night. The most notable thing was the poor audio mixing—the music was so loud that it was often pretty much impossible to understand the sung lyrics, and at times even the dialogue. Will Smith was an excellent Genie, and Princess Jasmine has considerably increased agency. My right ear was still ringing when I went to bed, but I am more sensitive than average to such things, and my right ear more so than my left. I could see others covering their ears at times. Naomi, having experience with animation, saw things that escaped my notice; she could see that the head of Jasmine’s pet tiger was a green ball, and at times could see a bit of the green body. She also noticed that the lighting on the tiger often didn’t match the surroundings. I’m sure she noticed other things, but those she mentioned; overall she had a poor opinion of the animations. 1. I always take ear plugs to the movies. They seem to delight in blasting your eardrums right out of your head.

  2. Have been watching PBS's The Paradise on DVD, and have just the opposite problem. It's in whisper mode. All my audio dials are at peak and it's close to impossible to hear. Without captioning, I'd be shit outta luck.
