Lend a helping hand.

At 6:51 p.m., Tom Hughes posted Lend a helping hand.

Tens of thousands of newly homeless families are competing for area shelters, hotels, motels and cars. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Red Cross are working endlessly to find shelter for the displaced, as well as medical attention, food, clothing and all of life's necessities.

We've joined MoveOn in launching an emergency national housing drive to connect your spare rooms, empty beds and comfy couches with hurricane victims who desperately need a place to stay. You can post your offer of housing and search for available housing online at:

  3. I know Kimmy. I am thinking of offering my place up for two months while I travel. Not sure if anyone would come all the way to AZ though.

  4. Demetrius,
I am going to try to collect at least 100 phone cards in my area to send to the Texas folks thru MVIMV. Great work on Jessica's part.

  5. Well, this one isn't that nice:
Housing for 2 people in Bluffton, AR

800 square foot rural, river cabin on working farm. Caucasion only. Outdoor pets are ok. Work available within 25 miles at chicken plants and pet food plant. Smokers ok, but no druggies or drinkers. Only moral, patriotic individuals considered. Long term arrangement possible for right people. Call XXX-XXX-XXXX after dark.

3 people have already emailed this host.

  6. Cheryl,

Holy sh!t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a measure of how desperate people are that *anyone* has e-mailed that "host."

Though, of course, people of that sort must have been made homeless too. It gives one the screaming heebee jeebees, though. Why bother posting? Also, that's not really my image of a typical MoveOn member. *shudder*

  7. uinen, I gather they are racist Bushies by the post, but at least they are offering the whities housing so I guess 3 people will benefit. Unless the ones emailing them are emailing to complain.

I also saw one where someone was 'renting' the places and it specifically says you are to offer it free.
