Success in San Mateo

On Blog For America Ashleigh Evans, the chair of San Mateo County Democracy for America, posted at 12:39 PM:

I received a voicemail from Betty Carlson, Tom Lantos' representative whom our San Mateo County Democracy for America delegation met with last week, with such surprising news that I had to call and confirm it with her this morning: as a result of our presentation, Congressmember Lantos has signed on to cosponsor Barbara Lee's House Resolution 375!

You'll remember that this is the House resolution that calls for the release of all U.S. information relating to communication with the United Kingdom that resulted in the Downing Street Memos. We asked for full Congressional hearings into whether the President misled us into the war in Iraq and whether he had a plan to get us out.

  3. You know that's funny: two firsties I've turned down today, LOL!! Here, I kinda felt like I got such GOOD very first firsties ever.

And there, I thought it would just start someone whining. . . .

  4. puddle,

Here, one doesn't feel they must protect the firsties from evil - LOL!

  5. And I didn't want to post the thread and grab firsties - that's cheating. :o))

  6. jc, the irony is, that is exactly right.

I absolutely despised seeing something Howard created being used as a platform to killing. And glorified killing, at that!

    Hi COMMIES!!!

    Janet Janet Janet!! hi *waving*

Everything Toscha said up there I agree with - my reason for not posting daily or often anymore too. Of course having a new job plays a part too

ANYWAY, GOOD MORNING!! Or is it afternoon?! I haven't slept yet, wouldn't know!! hahaha

  11. LOL! Feels like a HUGE step. When I first got online two years ago, I knew about blogs, I *liked* blogs, but all the advice about how to make one totally escaped me. And then came Howard Dean, and Treebeard, and Love, and and and. . . .

Having to learn to navigate a new blog (this one) that came practically with a demand that you create one, I thought, why not at least *try* boob? So I started, and it got so fun. . . .

Who knows how one could use the skills later, ahem?

You know, I've been getting these, daily, since Howard Dean said that capturing Saddam Housein hadn't made us any safer, and was raked over the coals, and distorted by the now so-called Fourth Estate.

And you also know: I'm really really sick and tired of getting them.

  19. Wanted to tell you all about a website I discovered. www.meetin.org or click my name

they are kind of like meetup but simple and easy and still free.

I am using it in Tucson for social networking, but a person can also use it to set up political stuff and they have a political board that you can discuss stuff on.

It might be a way to reach moderate Republicans too, especially for things like movie nights. I am going to try posting it there when the Wal-Mart movie comes out.

It is a really new site but after I posted the link on a local site, we got 40 new people. I went to my first event last week (a museum art show opening night) and it was a lot of fun. A good diversity of people.

If your city isn't listed, you can email the founders that you would like to create one.

I joined to find people with similar social interests to do things with and not have to pay for membership like most activities clubs here. The potential for a lot of more is there also.

  20. Puddle, in your settings there should be a function to make all posts comment enabled including your previous posts.

    ReplyDelete
  21. A cool function of blogger comments is that you can set up members and limit who can comment to those members you invite. The options are:

    Anyone
    Registered users
Only members of this blog (most restrictive)

Good to know if we get trolls over here.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If there is, I surely can't find it. S'okay: you can post comments now, and from now on, lol! I'm kinda having fun bumbling through this. Imagine being in kindergarten again, at 64!

Yep - that's about how it works. I'll double-check with Renee (this is her baby) but as far as I'm concerned if you've got something then send it and I'll post it. This is supposed to shadow the BFA blog, but I don't have a problem with the shadow doing its own thing from time to time. :)

    Google Maps

    http://maps.google.com/

Enter "buras la" as the search term and then click the satellite button.

This is the first area that got hit by the eye. People live there. There are homes, schools, businesses (stores, restaurants, motels, etc.) There are also several smaller towns south of this. They support the offshore oil industry and help fill your gasoline tanks.

There is one way out and transport by car, bus, etc. is a long line of vehicles on a highway (not an interstate) - It is a 60 mile trip to reach New Orleans.

There is no easy way to evacuate everyone quickly, and that includes all the people brought in from offshore drilling platforms.

As far as what Cheryl asked, I'm totally cool with that...long as you take care of it. My only concern would be with posting images--I want to make sure we don't do the stealing bandwidth thing. So, if we post any images, we need to make sure they are images we have permission to post, and one of them has them hosted somewhere.

  36. Renee,

Blogger has the capability for us to upload images to Blogger now, so the stealing bandwidth thing shouldn't be an issue. As to permissions for pictures, I have no idea how that works.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Renee,
If they are national photos you can legally link to them by linking back to the originator of the photo to give credit. You see it all the time on mainstream news blogs. I read that was how you can when I was setting up my own blogs.

If they are our own photos, you should have a free photo hosting in Picassa or Hello that comes with any blogger website.

As far as robbing bandwidth, if you are concerned with the littler sites that don't want you to link to them...then they normally state that right on their website. Most will welcome the link to garner more traffic to their site but smaller ones may have a disclaimer about it. In that case, you can still use the image...just upload it to Picassa, and still give credit to the originator.

I have done both on sites.

Honestly, Puddle. I didn't get it. Was it a racial joke? Or making fun of the way corporations outsource? I didn't get the 'green' thing. The rest I assumed was some kind of an accent?

We outsourced most of our call center work to India.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oscar, if the photos are already posted on a news story, you can post as long as you link and reference the article. Huffington post does it all the time. I read in some legal thing that is how you do it.

If you just use the photo but not reference the article, then you are violating copyright laws.

    ReplyDelete

No, actually considering the source, I think it was kinda cute confused republican thinking having to do with immigration rather than outsourcing as a major problem, LOL.

And also, the TROO frustration of trying to deal with help lines (in India, again, lol!)

  47. "Yesterday at Camp Casey was, again naturally, an amazing day. Dennis Means from the A.I.M. came with a group of Native American musicians and they made a presentation to me. He gave me a shawl in the tradition of Tecumseh and he pinned a brooch of 5 stars on it from "One chief to another." He also said we should all change our last names to Sheehan and he will be known as: Dennis Means Sheehan! Sheehan is Gaelic for "Peace" which I think is such a cool thing, and not a coincidence. Casey Sheehan's sacrifice will stand for peace forever.

I missed the candlelight vigil at Camp Casey I last night, but I heard that the counter-protestors came over and held vigil with us for our killed heroes. I heard it was beautiful and life-affirming. This is what Camp Casey does for us: it transforms bitter anger into righteous, productive anger. It turns hate into love. It brings people together in new love and cements mature relationships. It brings other people together who would normally not ever meet and makes them lifelong soul-friends. It heals broken hearts and mends broken souls. I know Camp Casey has healed my broken soul and heart. A veteran from the Iraq tragedy told me that he is now cured of any bad feelings he had.

Just another day at Camp Casey."

  65. Hi everyone, thanks for the welcome
Just got sidetracked wathcing the Weather Channel--my basic cable was mysteriously off for the last day. My heart goes to all those poor people affected by Katrina.

Seashell, would love to help you but I really do not understand how I actually got in myself...I went through the "create an account" thing, then quit it when I got to the page that asks you for your blog and url...then came back to this page, posted a comment, and there it was, with my name and all. So it'all a mystery to me.

As for refreshing--what browser do you use?

And Puddle: just tell Edwin to get himself a new name! BTW, there is a difference between "user name" and display name. I bet the problem is the user name, so he can just come up with whatever and still use Edwin as a display name.
Or at least, that what I could make out of it.

    ReplyDelete
  66. wierd, jc, they're both underlined and blue for me.

  90. Jessica, I know this blog isn't perfect, but it's what I can offer, with help from good people like Oscar. I know how to blog on this platform and, yes, it's free.

I'm really stressed right now about a lot of things. Our son starts middle school tomorrow, and there has been much wailing and gnashing of teeth around here about dress codes and such.

If someone wants to set up another shadow blog on that, they can go for it, but I can't personally wrap my mind around all that would entail.

It was, by the way, a *huge* amount of work setting this up. But I decided that I wanted to, and I did. Now I want to relax a bit and enjoy it.

I absolutlely don't mean to sound bitchy to you, but, like I said, I'm kinda stressed at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Seashell, Gates actually owns part of Mac. 21% ownership of Apple I believe.

Puddle, have Edwin use something silly for his login like "Bitemebush", then for his 'display name' he can use 'Edwin'.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Renee,
I empathize with you. The Crushie blog took so much work and there are so many limitations to blogger than it limited at least 5 people from being able to do basic funtions. Jessica was one of them.

I think we should use this one for now and then if we get a big turnout, we can discuss funding a blog with more features and getting a volunteer team to help Renee and others with setup, updates, etc.

All my blogs got ruined recently when my photo hosting site deleted all the pics for no good reason. Ugh!
