The Root Center's Amaranth
(click photo to enlarge)
That tall stuff you see over there is Amaranth. Irene blew it all over, and all The Root Center's corn too.
Son spent his Monday shoring up the Amaranth. Today he'll do the same for the corn.
I'm going over to help on Wednesday.
But he feels lucky that they weren't flooded, as the much larger farm The Intervale was:

Son hopes to go over and help them too. Mind you, he also has a 40 hour/week job.
This is Vermont.

How does your garden grow?
I'm off to the Root Center again today to help with weeding
and we might even put the dome up again!

See those little beach balls?
The last groomsman, just ahead of the Flower Fairies, and the person who officiated the wedding, both took care of the new couple's kitty while they were on their honeymoon. In addition to washing all their pre-wedding-mania-time dishes (the apartment has no dishwasher) the two guys saved all the beach balls from the ceremony, blew them up again, and left them all over the apartment to greet the happy couple upon their return! LOL! Nice people rock!

Name that flower...
I cannot remember what this is called. It looks like giant Rose Mallow. I cut it at a local flower farm, for the wedding, and when my florist saw it (when she helped me load more flowers into my car) she said it's very hard to get and was pleased I'd found some. So, if no one here knows what it is, I'll ask the florist when I bring back her plastic tub this week. :-)

First time placed on a bed!
The strange part about making the king-sized quilt was not having access to a king-sized bed to check it out on. So I am happy to report that it fit beautifully when we tried it out on the king-sized bed at the inn where we stayed. The pillow shams are (deliberately) standard size, since that's what the recipients use. During the wedding reception, I had all the fun of bringing four sisters-in-law up to this room to show off the quilt. That was fun, especially as littlest granddaughter came along! ♥

The Wedding Quilt ~ Autumn Panel
The balloon represents Son's birthday season.
The geese are flying south and the leaves are falling.
Yet there is time left for a sailboat race.
And there's the ferry coming in to dock.
The large island off to the right represents Rock Point,
where the Groom went to youth camp some Summers.

The Wedding Quilt ~ Spring Panel
The Mountain at the back is Vermont's Camel's Hump
The balloon represents the Bride's birthday season, and is shown in her favourite colour.
The three white trees represent the three Shad trees planted at our house last Spring,
and in the foreground is a garden.
Note the female Cardinal in a Shad tree. Her nest is over in the Cherry tree.
While I like the waterfall and rainbow, my favourite item on the whole quilt is
the Flying Goose ~ a symbol for the Holy Spirit, to bless them along their way.

The Wedding Quilt ~ Summer Panel
Note the wedding tent and flags! Today's the Big Day!
There is also a full moon as this is the full moon day this month.
There will be sunflowers at the wedding and maybe even butterflies.
The Lake is Lake Champlain with the Adirondack Mountains beyond
(and they really do look like that). The city is Burlington, Vermont.

The Wedding Quilt ~ Winter Panel
Top, left are fireworks because they became engaged on New Year's Eve (at the Blue Moon).
There is a Cardinal atop the evergreen tree, both representing the Christmas season.
Note the pair of deer and see if you can find the bunny.
The mountain at the back is Mount Mansfield as seen looking west.

Never Forget

My mother died ten years ago today. It was a shock and we were sad, but I'm glad she missed 9/11 that year, by just about a month.

Aha! That's why!

Some of us who read Son's Arctic Blog this past week saw a mini version of this photo and wondered how come the field biologists' igloo tents aren't attacked by the polar bears. Take a closer look here and you'll see the reason...that looks like electric fencing! I'm interested to find out the source of reliable electricity in ANWR! LOL! Or are those actually bear flares?

Broken on a Flower

I have no idear how this beautiful Butterfly became broken on a flower, but that is apparent in this photo. Somehow it seems an appropriate photo for August 2nd, as we wait to hear whether Congress keep us flying or will break us apart on our own petals.

I'm posting this thread just for comments.
Nope. This isn't working either. Seems to be a problem with Echo.
From Renee--maybe for tonight, we could go with this.
Echo's back up. (9:20 p.m.)

To the Sea...!

I'm off to the Atlantic Ocean today for a Family Reunion at New Castle. I shall be enchanted by being in the presence of all three granddaughters plus Ally! It is reported there may be some adults around too (something like 30 of them, ha!).

Aunt Evelyn's Tiger Lilies

I dislike orange flowers, but treasure these because they came from dear old Great Aunt Evelyn's garden, and she herself gave them to me, long ago when she was still with us. ♥
