  2. The Wedding Quilt is DONE!

Out front is a rather lousy photo of it, since I had to post it through my computer. I'll have been photos to share of the quilt next week, because after it is gifted at the wedding, I'll be able to post some photos on Facebook and snag them from there for here. :-)

If you double click on the photo you can see a larger version of it. The weird horizontal thin stripes are NOT part of the quilt, only part of the posting.

In this photo I see some areas that look like puckers, and maybe are, but Emma-cat had just walked across the quilt and it's all quilted, then tied in place. The puckers relate to the tying.

This represents Vermont, looking from east to west, and each of the four panels represents a different season.

    Summer . . . Fall
    Spring . . . Winter

    Enjoy!

  3. Son has left the Arctic!! He's in Vancouver for a conference then comes home late Thursday.

I was supposed to fly out of Kaktovik on Sunday, but got fogged in. Then I took a morning flight on Monday to Prudhoe Bay because they can get flights out even if fog comes in. Then it turned out that one of the maintenance workers in Kaktovik (radar facility) was injured and needed to go to the hospital in Fairbanks. So we flew back to Kaktovik and picked him up (hand injury - painful but not dangerous) then on to Fairbanks. 4 hours later I got a flight to Anchorage. Two hours later I got another flight to Seattle. 3 hours after that I got a flight to Vancouver.

Left Kaktovik the first time at 11am on Monday. Arrived in Vancouver at 8am Tuesday!

On Thursday I just have a flight to Ontario and then one to Boston. Then I catch a bus to Portsmouth [NH] where I get picked up!

Other people have had to wait as long as four days for the fog to clear out of Kaktovik this time of year, so the challenging part is over...smooth sailing from here

The hard part was always going to be getting out of the Arctic.
I mean flights can still get delayed, but I will be there on Friday in VT

And there was great rejoicing!!! :-D

  4. And it "only" took 8 months to make...after I had it all planned and much of the fabric in hand.

    Congratulations!

I never realized quilts could show pictures. The ones my grandmother did were all geometric, with scraps of cloth cut into squares or triangles and sewn together. But I suspect she may have been using a somewhat different technique.

  8. Kid's coming this weekend, and I have tons of work to do before that happens: finish taping and plastering the bathroom, polyurethaning the floor, finish the tiling and grouting, and with the time left over finish shingling the front porch, so I can give him his saw back. Also need to find the time for pickling the new cuke harvest. I'm *sure* listener is going to be having more fun this weekend than I am, lol!

  10. My theory: there *should* be NO 8 foot ladders. If you can't do it on a 6 foot ladder, you shouldn't be doing it t all. Problem is, I don't even own a six foot ladder, alas. And got the 8 foot one because I have so many 12 foot ceilings. . . .

  14. A member posted this to the Engelbert discussion list with reference to the show in Biloxi this past Friday:

If all 75 year old men had his looks, charm, talent, and energy, we would never need convalescent homes because all the 60 plus year old ladies would be chasing them, therefore they would be in great shape to! That's a "health plan", I could live with!

I pointed out that, where Engelbert is concerned at least, the over sixties would have a *lot* of competition.

  15. Does anybody know anything about Vanguard Records? Sis has been researching, but has yet to come up with a solid, reliable street address.

It seems her boy, Chris Isaak, has moved from his longtime label, Warner Bros., to Vanguard. That would be all right, if perhaps a bit odd, except that she now doesn't know where to send The Socks. Not that they're finished, mind you, but it's the principle of the thing.

  16. Bill, I too am accustomed to geometric type quilts. Couldn't quite believe it when I saw listener's.

  18. I have a friend in Manchester, Linda Rose, the one who lost her husband at Eastertime. She's alone with her wheelchair bound daughter. Please hold them in the Light particularly. Thanks.

  20. Well finished with the drywall compound. The job's not done, but the bucket is. Don't have the energy to open a new one this time of night. All's needs doing is a skim coat, to make it look like stucco. And then finish the tile and grouting. And the pickles. And the shingles.

    Did I mention I'm tired?
