In other semi-news, there seems to be increasing chatter about Mexico following the example of Canada and diverting oil exports from US to Europe and China. Nothing formally announced, though.
Ageing nuclear plant in Florida at risk from climate crisis, advocates warn [Click] I remember when during Jerry Brown Jr.’s first term as Governor of California it was projected that California would have to build another six nuclear power plants, so a long term plan to not only stop the new ones, but make the existing ones unnecessary was developed. First of all, efficiency standards were established for all sorts of things— refrigerators, hot water heaters, etc. etc. with planned improvements into the future. Then the way the utility companies were compensated was adjusted so they could maintain their profits while using less gas. Unfortunately, after a while some unscrupulous companies gamed the system to seriously overcharge customers, so that was dealt with. As near as I can figure, we had a maximum of nine nuclear power plants (of various sizes), and are now down to one. It is difficult to say just when the last one will close, but it seems to be scheduled for Autumn of this year. ——Alan
